Initiis Class
The Initiis Class (Latin for Beginnings) is Humanities answer to Interstellar Travel. These ships are unfathomably vast and house entire planetary populations to travel out of the Solar System to new and distant stars and galaxies. They are launched by being targeted in a variety of ways form being aimed at a particular star or distant planet or simply just a region in a galaxy with the sole aim of creating a colony in this space.
When the ships are launched, the population onboard select a name for the vessel and this becomes their new home. Most likely, the crew that leaves the origin planet, never see their new home and so this naming and new identification is the most critical part of the first few years of flight.
The ships are effectively self-contained megacities and have all the amenities you would expect from high society luxury to depraved slums and poverty. For some on board, it's their mission, others an exciting adventure, some have paid vast SMS of wealth for a seat and others had no choice.
They are designed this way to best emulate a representative construct of Earth Society and Culture so that some form of structure and order can be both maintained on board and established in their new home wherever that may be.
Many of these ships lost contact with Earth decades ago, lost in the cosmos, their fate, undetermined. Some are still sending regular transmissions and voyage updates. And a very few made it to a new home. Over time, and even now thousands of these ships are launched. A mammoth undertaking of design, construction, technological innovation and economic expenditure. It takes pools of citizens from across the System to fill them, again to provide a representative sample of that ages Populus, societal and cultural blend.
