Earth

Geography

Earth is a small planet home to the Human Race. The majority of its surface is covered in blue oceans and a number of distinct landmasses. It has a range of highly distinct terrains, weather patterns and seasonal affects that differ globally dependent on where you are on its surface.   From scorched Deserts, to lush green Jungles. The frigid wastes of the arctic and the Siberian Tundra. As humanity developed, adapted to its changing world and manged to harness and even control its power, resources and even climate and atmosphere, it could be sustained and controlled in an unprecedented way like never before.   Finally there is the vast and sprawling cities that consume entire regions and whole continents. Global population booms and expansive living room has created a new form of environment. The Conurbs. Super Cities that are so large, sprawling and high that millions of their inhabitants have ever seen natural sunlight, unable to reach to the lowest levels due to the gigantic buildings, intoxicating pollution and mass of people and clutter in the sky around them.

History

Earth is a small planet, home to the Human Race and the first populated planet in the Solar System. The very Cradle of Humanity and at one time a very familiar place to be. But now, to be a Human is no longer to be of Earth. For billions, Earth is but a dot in the sky.   From the very beginning, it was known that Humanity would travel to the stars. The very first pioneers of space travel would become the pathfinders of a new era of intrigue, exploration and inquiry. From the first space flights, satellites and planetary landings to exploring and photographing objects outside of our own Solar System, we never stopped.   Since then, a massive drive and emphasis on space exploration and discovery consumed public and government opinion and world focus shifted to opportunities off world. Colony and explorations missions were always oversubscribed and even national lottery systems and game shows offering seats on the shuttles as prizes. Humanity had developed a vast civilization occupying many stars and worlds. System Hop Drives and sophisticated sub-light engines allowed localised space travel to be realised as humanities access to the stars. Space travel was the norm and the ability to go from one world to another was no more complex or expensive as other means of transport. The Solar System had been terraformed and colonised and new societal, cultural, economic, military and political entities arose across the sector. Exploratory ships and vessels were now setting their sights onto other galaxies as the fringes of the Milky Way were being filled in.   Fantastically vast ships were built to transport entire populations to other planets and worlds. The StarMover Class ships were designed to traverse the cosmos in relative comfort to colonise, populate and even add to worlds, far beyond the Solar system, light years away. Global population and resource issues were resolved due to the constant movement of people. Earth had become a utopia due to the common desire and shared enthusiasm for space travel. It became the hub of the Human race and the Head of the Galactic Government.   Each planet quickly developed a unique identity and culture under the Earth Galactic Government and become not only their own planet, but their own people, culture and identity among the galactic order (Martians, Saturnian, Neptuns, Titanen, Europans/Europians, Plutonians, etc). Inter-planetary relations, trades and alliances began to form and the ideas of nation states quickly evolved into whole planetary identification and affiliation.   A multitude of space stations dotted any route into and out of a planets space and the establishment of exclusion zones around certain areas of space containing anomalies or hazardous gases meant disputes were often localised on a planet between warring factions or groups or their local moons. Vary rarely would two planets go to war but it’s not unknown and even then, the localised Militaries of each planet would be dwarfed in comparison to the Earth Galactic Governments ‘mediation force’ sent to resolve the dispute after the first initial exchanges.     Militaries were often used to escort and accompany the colonial vessels and patrol trade routes from mercenaries and pirates. Space stations were often heavily armed to defend against any incursion and dedicated Star Bases and planetary bases act as military waypoints and beacons for the vast intricacies of the Earth Galactic Governments' sizable military assets. These range from small escort and fighter styles, transporters and troop landers for land based and space based operations, up to large battleship and destroyer class ships forming the vanguards of any patrol or planetary defense system. Finally there is the capital ships. Similar in size to the StarMovers, these ships can level planets and defend entire sectors single handed, acting as a mobile command unit for the regions military infrastructure and operating at the forefront of any deep space operations.
