The Legend of The Dragon Staff [WASC2020]

Summary

The Dragon Staff was first created and wielded by Vola Wranthana on the island of Kurunagh. It is made of gold harvested from the horde of the final dragon, Suviklarg.   The staff looks like dragon scales along the rod and the top is a dragon's claw holding a large gem of power, or "core." The core was harvested from the final remains of Suviklarg after his death. Even though no traditional core was created during Suviklarg's rapid petrification during the events of The Runaway's Hope (Read Here). Vola constructed this core by reconstituting (un-petrifying) one of Suviklarg's organs and filling it with magic from other "common" cores from blessed animals she found in her later travels.

Historical Basis

The events behind creating the "Dragon Staff' actually happened. It is an actual artifact that was passed down through the generations. It was first seen by humans in North Harbor in 652 BCE.   The offical history of the Fairies records that the "Dragon Staff" was buried with Vola upon her death. Her tomb in Trilenius was raided 7 years after her burial and the staff was looted. The history of the journeys of the Dragon Staff have become legendary as many fairy or fae have been rumored to posses it and its power.   It is rumored that the core of Suviklarg mounted upon the staff increases the power of its weilder. This is true to the extent that this was a dragon core, as opposed to cores from more common Blessed creatures. Magical essence extracted from common cores is amplified when placed within this dragon core.   The Dragon Staff is the only known dragon core. Suviklarg hunted and killed other the dragons in an effort to extend his own life. These drained cores appear as large crystals and may not have survived through the centuries of history.

Spread

The historical knowledge of the Dragon Staff is well known amongst those who study fairy lore. The exact location of the Dragon Staff is unknown and of great interest of the Fairy Council who works to try to track and recover it. The Rangers of the Fairy Council were formed to explore the world in search of the Dragon Staff and other powerful or historical artifacts.

Variations & Mutation

The legend of the Dragon Staff is intreguing because no one knows for sure where it is. The rumors of the powers of the staff are exaggerated but not well documented as Vola never explained her staff to anyone. She never intended the staff to be used after her passing.   The variations of the legend of the Dragon Staff come in who has hold of it. Each country has their own "dragon staff" story showing how the staff was used and by whom.

Cultural Reception

The Dragon Staff is critically important to the Fairy Council and all of the inhabitants of TRILENIUS. It has been a topic of great shame that it was lost to the ages and has yet to be recovered.   Countries use the legend of the Dragon Staff to bolster their standing in the world. The better the story, the better the credence given to that country.

In Literature

There is a whole branch of historical and archiological studies dedicated to the Dragon Staff. Scholars of the Fairy Council strive to document all of the rumors of the Dragon Staff and try to trace it throughout history. By separating fact from fiction, they hope to be able to find it one day.

In Art

It is commonly used in heraldry for royal houses claiming a divine right.

Formatting ideas (whenever you get there, I know a lot of mine will happen post-camp): transparentify the staff? Maybe make it part of the design--you could do two columns for some of the content and the staff could run vertically down the column next to the text? :) Great work!! Sagadorm is developing nicely this month, and I can't wait to see what else your world has in store!

You are doing a great job! Keep creating; I believe in you!

Thanks, Dani! I have made some edits after Scribe's review. Moving the image and other text edits. I have a lot to learn in formatting and I look forward to learning it! I plan on redrawing the staff if time permits.
