Case Study: Cadmus

In any other life, Cadmus would be a respectable individual. Rumor claims, for instance, that he grew up the son of an especially wealthy Uriban Merchant Clan. He helped tend the family business from the rip age of six alongside his father and brothers. If things turned out as normal, he would have been an especially well respected, rich, and maybe even a powerful force among Uribasa's wealthy families.   This was not the case. Cadmus has developed something of a reputation across the lands. He is either dismissed as a swindler and conman or begrudgingly respected. There are bounties for his head, victims who Cadmus had wronged or ripped off.   But who is this Cadmus? Cadmus is typical of an Uriban. Optimistic, cheerful, and seemingly unmoved by violence or misfortune. Cadmus is always accompanied by his faithful Lance Drone, Etta, who serves as a mount, protector, and most important (to Cadmus) his only true friend.   Cadmus has a number of odd jobs. More often than not, he is a treasure hunter, often selling to gullible individuals trinkets, gems, or artifacts that are forgeries. Yet for every ten "priceless" relics sold there is a one treasure that comes out as authentic. Such valuables end up in the hands of its rightful owners. In the wake of the War of Zealots and Martyrs many such items had been scattered across the world. These are the remains of great civilizations, pieces of vanquished Gods, or the detritus of weapons and technology from before the War.   He is also a travel writer. Cadmus is reviled among scholarly circles and most learned men ignore his ramblings. His books unsurprisingly are beloved by the common people, offering glimpses of far away lands. Hand in hand with his writing is his thirst for exploration. Whether true or not, Cadmus may be one of the few people to travel to the mysterious lands of Zolacwa and return to tell the tale.   Not a day goes by, where Cadmus treads, that he does not make a new friend or a new enemy. Sometimes one of each. And others, perhaps at the same time.
