The Ly'end

The Ly'end (colloq. The Warp; rarer use: Darkfall) is a magical domain discovered around 2.400 B.t.F., marking the beginning of the Age of Chaos. This domain is filled with dark and potent magic which are used by powerful individuals to wreak havoc upon the world. It allows user to access previously unknown fields of the Weave, untapped by any magic user before. In the domain of the Ly'end, there are seven under-domains which contain different kinds of powers. The seven known under-domains are:
  • Illusion
  • Destruction
  • Alteration (manipulation of inorganic matter)
  • Displacement (teleportation)
  • Dispellation (protection against magical influences)
  • Protection (protection against non-magical influences)
  • Warping (manipulation of organic matter)
These domains all run together in the Ly'end, but focusing them is possible through the use of Warping Stones. These artifacts are regular objects, usually some form of cut gem or stone, imbued by a certain ritual with the essence of the domain.

Origins

Documents about the origins of the Ly'end are sparse and often ancient with little evidence to be backed up. Though a few myths tell stories of the Age of Chaos, a time of strife for Rohengard and the first user of the Ly'end.
Two millennia before Humans first settled in Serenia, a mage by the name of Aballaoph first discovered a way to harness the power of the Ly'end. Legends describe them finding an ancient scroll in which it was laid out how to infuse a Warping Stone. The validity of the legend is debatable, although it is preserved as such in the Elven Archive of Serenia. According to the lore, such a powerful artifact changed the magic user into a mad-ridden slither of the mage they once were. Attracting other curious or malicious minds, Rohengard became a land of chaos under the influence of the Ly'end, plunging it into the Age of Chaos.
