Hæmographology

Enlartykonë (Tre. /ɛn.lær.tjɪ.ˈkɔ.nɛ/) in Tretalleri, Hæmographology is a burgeoning field of study and practical science in the Dominion. Hæmography, or enlartyrë (Tre. /ɛn.lær.ˈtjɪ.ɾɛ/) in Tretalleri, is the practice of encoding information into a volume of blood first discovered in 989.29 NL by a group of fanes headed by Leýna a'Narra working closely with Di'Korvîttë to explore means of storing large amounts of information, such as the Pale Grimoire and the surrounding texts in as small a footprint as possible to aid with archival.  

Discovery

In the year 982.29 NL, the Twin Courts commissioned an inquiry into some means of reducing the footprint of the Dominion's vast archives of legal documents and religious texts. As the Dominion had undergone significant expansion in its thirty millennia of history, the amount of documents produced by its bureaucracy has become problematic. Though the original planners of Dominion government offices and structure had the foresight to account for the Dominion's expansion, at the time, the system was approaching its limit. Without action, Dominion logisticians estimated that older documents would have to be purged from the records by the year 100.30 NL in order to make space for newer documents.   Di'Korvîttë were given a supervisory role in the inquiry, which was tasked with finding a method to minimize the spatial footprint of Dominion documents, creating a system that minimizes the amount of time it takes to find and comprehend a particular document in the archives, and formulating and implementing a plan to take any agreed-upon solution from early testing within the limits of the Ivory City to full-scale application across all Dominion holdings before the year 000.30 NL. Though Di'Korvîttë explored a number of avenues on their own, missives were sent to all scientific institutions within and without the Dominion, bar those in the Silvered Realm, informing them of the problem and promising a reward for anyone who could come up with a promising solution.   Progress was relatively slow in the first 5 years of the inquiry, as most of the solutions explored internally and sent in from outside focused on the physical dimensions of the information being kept, or otherwise relied on compressing the information through some clever sort of encoding which would have run counter to the commission's second mandate. It wasn't until one of the researchers stumbled upon an entirely unrelated recent submission to the The Grand Rookery by Meretil a'Candeni, laying the case for what he called "Essential Information" that could be found in the blood of all creatures, that another avenue for research was opened up to the inquiry.   Deputizing one of the Grand Rookery's resident fanes, Leýna a'Narra, to put together a team to investigate "Essential Information," the commission continued to explore other avenues but kept a close eye on the promising new lead. The theoretical framework behind hæmography started with the notion that if "Essential Information" could be contained in the blood, it might be possible to store other information in the blood, or otherwise rewrite this "Essential Information" for other purposes. "Essential Information" itself proved to be a major breakthrough in the field of biology at the time, and Meretil a'Candeni, along with his team, were formally recognized by the Twin Courts in 988.29NL for their contributions to science.   The first working prototype protocol for hæmography was built the same year, in 988.29 NL and further refined into the first proper hæmography protocol during the first Length of 989.29 NL. Testing in the Ivory City began during the Season of Light in 989.29 NL, during which the technology was further refined into the form that saw eventual release to the public in 992.29 NL.
