The lost sea

Overview

For all intents and purposes, the section of open sea in the north has become a no go zone. Anyone who sails or swims into this section of sea is simply never heard from again. It is unknown exactly when this phenomenon first came into being, the aquatic races didn't spend much time in this area of the ocean to begin with as there wasn't much going on out there anyway.

Wrapped in Mystery

It looks like any other expanse of open sea when viewed from the outside, so it is impossible to tell exactly where the point of no return is. This has led to people simply avoiding this entire stretch of sea completely, sticking to coastal routes for shipping. There have been some brave souls over the years who have tested how far you can go, and those who lived have set a sort of broad border around the zone. However, most people simply avoid it all together.
The aquatic races say that the no go zone seems to stretch right the way down to the ocean floor, or at least as far down as they are able to travel. Those few who have tried to fly over this expanse of sea have had varying results as the anomaly seems to extend about two hundred foot above the sea's surface. Anyone who has flown over this stretch of sea, reports the exact same thing, it simply looks like a plain expanse of water, with no oddities or landmasses that can be seen.

Magical Anomaly

Magic users of all ilks have attempted to figure out this anomaly, but also with no success. Most of these tests were caried out from the air as this is the only way to guarantee that the spells are even reaching the affected area. Magic detection spells and artifacts reveal no auras which could have helped map the size of the area. Spells fired into the zone hit the water with the expected result or simply have no effect at all.
