Three thousand years ago, Voralar was a warm world, and Linnadeigh (territory) a tropical country. Those were days of myth and legend, now remembered only in folk tales and arcane archaeology.
Linnadeigh. To the ancients, the Jewel of the North; to the Orcaryn tribesmen of yore, The Great Ship; to its enemies, the Land of Ice and Fury.
Once a green and pleasant land, Linnadeigh has always been a seafaring nation. Its national character changed as the Glaze fell, growing dour and robust. Its inventors made Linnadeigh a motor of development, competing with the ice age to make the country habitable before it froze over. As the freezing of the Rimeway marked the new era, Linnadeigh's maritime superiority became cemented with the greatest fleet of ice-classed vessels Voralar had ever seen.
Its current head of state is Queen Aetherya III, reigning over a government led by Premier Aetheldur Daerthunnenn. While the Queen is well liked, Daerthunnenn is seen as someone more interested in enjoying the perks of rank than having much of an effect on anything.
Regions within Linnadeigh, along with its overseas possessions, are each ruled in the Queen's and Overthing's stead by viceroys, with Viceroy Daerthunnaelv Ryetalesis currently in her thirtieth year as Viceroy of Rimeport and its regions.
Linnadeigh's maritime heritage is seen everywhere. As an island nation, there are few places that don't have easy access to ports, and even inland regions are connected to the coast by the many large rivers. Maritime groups hold great cachet, with the Linnadean Navy and the Ancient and Imperial Order of Glaciators and Bergwranglers among the most prestigious.
