The Ioresthian Peninsula

The Ioresthian Peninsula is a large and ancient region in the south-west of Rhyshar. The region is famed for it's rugged coastal features, it's ancient traditions, and it's formidable warriors.

Geography

The primary regions of the Ioresthian Peninsula are, from north to south.

Aetolis

The northern region of the peninsula is known as Aetolis, a less tamed region of swamplands, groves, and rugged mountains. In the northern-most reaches of Aetolis is a great swamp within which primordial and ancient creatures dwell. The region of Aetolis is named after the Aetols, a great mountain range which borders the coast of the Ichythan Sea.

Thesdronike

Known as the "Heart of Culture", the region of Thesdronike represents the current capital and heartland of the Ioresthian Peninsula.

Eukaryia

Known as the "Land of the Hunt", the southern reaches of Eukaryia are known for their rugged mountains, deep valleys, and wild groves. The most untamed continental region of the peninsula the peoples who live in Eukaryia are stubborn, proud, and isolated. Whether farmers, fishers, or cattle-herders - the citizens of Eukaryia take pride in their martial traditions and in extreme times of war the entire population of Eukaryia has assembled to form one of the most formidable armies to ever take the field of battle on Rhyshar.

Lyketros

The Island of Lyketros, "From Whence None Return", is both a great island in it's own right as well as the name of the archipelago of islands off the southern coast of the Ioresthian Peninsula.

The Ichthyan Sea

The vast expanse of water to the south-west of Rhyshar.

Locations in Aetolis

Jaxol's Watch

This isolated town is the northern-most civilized outpost in Aetolis where travelers pass on their way into the interior woodlands or the rugged volcanic range to the north. Named for a famous ranger Jaxol who, as legend tells it, tracked, hunted, and felled every beast of the northern swamp - filling his long hall with their trophies as a tribute to Achella, Goddess of the Hunt.

The Lernean Swamp

The untamed lands to the north of Jaxol's watch are a meandering marsh of muddy islands, swampy groves, and acrid bogs. Deep underground vents from the volcanic lands to the north run underground and emanate sulfrous fumes through the swampland. The noxious environment gives breed to exotic and dangeous flora, and legends speak in hushed tones of the primordial horrors that dwell in the Lernean Swamp's deepest reaches.

Salisso

Also known as "The Port of Olessis"; a small town at the outlet of the Olessis. The swampy groves in the mouth of the great river are treacherous to navigate. The Ferrymen of Salisso are a famous guild of river-runners who help steer barges safely through the winding swampland into the rich heartland of the continent.

The Port of Kephos

A port city built on the cliff-side at the horn of the northern peninsula, Kephos is an ancient and proud maritime city of commerce and tradition.

The Seer's Glade

An ancient temple and forested enclave at the borders of the great forests to the east. This temple is famed as home to a group of ancient seers who dedicate their lives towards reading the threads of prophecy and unlocking the powers of sight-beyond-sight.

The Ruined Acropolis of Ixkanakis

The ancient acropolis was a temple to the Ixkanakis, dragon god of battle and storms, perched as high as the peals of the Aetols themselves, this acropolis surveyed the expanse of the Ioresthian Peninusla. The acropolis stands ruined, destroyed in the savage and earth-shattering conflict between the dragon god and the mortal heroes who strove to break his yoke of domination over the peninsula.

The Aetolian Way

This ancient and famous road connects the northern lands of Aetolis with the southern heartland of Thesdronike by way of a rugged cliffside passage that hugs the coastal waterways of the Ichythan Sea. This roadway is often treacherous, both geographically and due to the dangerous creatures or conniving bandits who live within the Aetols.
