New Year's Feeding

At the eve of every new year, it is traditional to offer Rhina food to keep her fed for the next year. There are several variations to the tradition throughout the world, but central to the idea is that Rhina requires some sort of sacrificial stockpile of food to keep her full.   The simplest form of the ritual involves leaving out crops or a prepared meal over night. Alternatively the food may be burned or buried to help the food transfer more quickly to Rhina-- burning is practiced in Skaia, while burying is practiced throughout most of Ancylo. More elaborate forms of the ritual are followed in different subcultures.

History

Some claim that Thi would hold a feast for the planes every year, and now that Thi is gone, it falls upon the people of Rhina to keep her fed. However, there is no clear beginning to the tradition, and no records of Thi creating this feast while living with the people in The City of Thi. While records are scarce from that time period, it is presumed that a godly feast would be the sort of thing that would have been recorded! Other historians claim that the periods of time where Thi was absent from The City could be when the feast took place. Either way, the New Year's Feeding is a well established tradition in the world, and serves as a celebration of the completion of another year.

Execution

In the Rooted place, the Gardeners believe that their protection of the The Roots means they have the most direction connection to protecting Rhina, and therefore are actually responsible for delivering food to her. Rising protectors of the roots battle their way through the labyrinth to deliver the large feast.
