Myths of how Poet's Lake got its name

Poet's Lake is a large lake in the North Eastern part of Elgidth, quite far from most civilizations. This is where the mystery of its name comes in - it is not known exactly why it was named such and who named it, all that is known is that it is named that way both South and North of it, including being named the same in different languages, always having something to do with a poet.   Historians have put together a list of the most commonly known myths regarding the lake as the most possible reasons for it receiving its name.

Skolkog Myth

North East of the large lake existed and still exists a mountain tribe of northern folk called the Skolkog Tribe which, unlike many of the surrounding clans and tribes, was said to put its literature, its poetry in high regard. This is why, unlike most clans and tribes whose tests and coming of age rituals involved going into the wilderness and hunting a bear, or wolf, or surviving on their own for 7 days or the such, the Skolkog Tribe had an entirely different coming of age ceremony. Their youth was to set out on a journey down South West to the large lake where they were to complete an entire sonnet either about the lake or their clan.   This is acknowledged as the most likely story since the Skolkog Tribe still to this day has this ritual.

Laughing Poet Myth

A comedic myth that originates from the Salttoss Clan states that ages ago, the warriors and rangers of the clan had set out South West, since at that time the area had not been embarked upon, and looked to see if they could find any new resources, landmarks or even other civilizations, tribes and clans. On the 4th day of travel, the massive party saw a humongous lake, the size of which they hadn't seen before. The men and women wanting to celebrate their new find went swimming in the frigid waters and had a great time. As they swam though it is said that in the distance, on the shore of the lake they saw what looked like a thin man, at least compared to the meaty barbarians, who had been sitting and loudly, joyously making sound in the direction of the folk. The northern folk didn't take his grin kindly and got offended, thinking he had been laughing at them. Once they went over and tried to talk to the poet, they found that the parties couldn't communicate since they didn't share a language, so without being able to explain that they hadn't been laughing at the folk, the poet was tossed into the frigid water by the barbarians who soon after went back to their clan and relayed what they'd found.   There are different stories of what the poet had actually been singing about but it most commonly is thought that he had been singing about the "giant folk", who had muscles and physiques the likes he hadn't seen before.

Giant of the Lake Myth

The least known of the variations is an interesting tale of a large individual who loved spending their time in the lake. The tale goes that there was a giant, but not the fat, uneducated, ugly, hot-headed kind but instead a supposedly beautiful individual who bathed in the water of the lake. Poets and artists of all places overhearing the tale of the large individual came and saw, wrote poems and made art of the beautiful giant who swam in the lake.   This story mainly exists because of a few scrolls that were found involving poems about the large individual.

In Art

From the Giant of the Lake myth, there are known to be some paintings of the large individual bathing in the large lake.
