The Faith of the Red-Eyed Cobra is a cult which focuses on the worship of
Zaed, a powerful entity, which is said to look like a giant snake with ruby red eyes. The cult is mainly located in
Daglan as it is the city where most of the meetings and sacrifices are held. The Cult is mainly hidden from the populace, although as it's grown, it's become more popular and more rumours have spread about it.
To please Zaed, his followers give blood to
Zaed. It's said that Zaed's favourite blood is that of a powerful person or a person who one of his followers already despises as Zaed also enjoys the emotion of rage and especially loves when his followers feel it.
The Beginning
It is not exactly known when or how the Faith of the Red-Eyed Cobra started but there are speculations that it began at the
Zahrun Temple, which was a Yuan-Ti temple which existed near where Daglan is today. It is thought that when the Temple was destroyed and the Yuan-ti fled, they came to Daglan where they introduced the religion to others.
Dangerous Nights
Most citizens in Daglan know that they're taking a risk by living in the city as it is no secret to know that people go missing. The Zaed cult is one of the main causes for the disappearances. With the Cult having hundreds, nearing thousands of members, some would think that it's strange that it has not been uncovered. The truth is that the cult has indeed been uncovered many times, although almost always the news are swept under the rug by authorities who happen to also be secretly in the cult. So, whenever a brave and standalone guard decides that he wants to rally his allies to go and hunt these cultists, their guard captain releases them of their duties, as the guard captain most probably is a member of the cult. And for whatever odd reason the man who was so brave to speak out disappears in a day or two's time.
Dark Rituals
The members of the Faith of the Red-Eyed Cobra commit themselves to doing grand blood rituals for Zaed. They don't do these rituals too often as to not attract too much attention by gathering in large number in one location. These types of big rituals are held only around once two full moons. There are smaller rituals, which are done by individual groups of these cultists as well, usually including under 20 cultists. So if a big ritual would be a huge party, a smaller ritual like this would be more along the lines of a friendly get-together. In big rituals with over a hundred of these followers attending, there are always exceptional people being sacrificed and also the number of more normal people is heightened. In the smaller, group rituals, the group usually only sacrifices a few people, and almost never are they of much importance or sustenance to Zaed.
The Twelve Fangs
The Twelve Fangs of Zaed are 12 individuals, 12 followers of Zaed who have gained the serpent's acknowledgement by being powerful, by recruiting others to the cause or most importantly, by sustaining Zaed with either huge amounts of blood or even in small numbers, very special blood, like that of an armies commander, an arch wizards, a knight in shining armour's, etc. The Fangs each have a much closer bond to Zaed as they gain a much bigger portion of his power. This also means that the Fangs are not only strong but often they have their own branches in the cult with their own group of followers who work under them, although of course they all truly work for Zaed.
As a
Fang, you also receive one of the twelve special Zaed blood techniques. These are techniques which only the Fangs hold. Each Fang has their own technique which can resemble weapons, magic, pets or physical or mental change.
