Church of the Sun God

The Church of the Sun God is a religious order that worships the one they call the Sun God, god of the sun, light, warmth, fire, compassion and anger. The main location of His following is located in Henmire, mainly in Frelhar and its surrounding towns.

Disbandment

The Church of the Sun God was dissolved in 827 AIC. A series of events led to the untimely end of the church. In the previous years, the church of the Sun God had been undergoing rituals in which
Redal, an angel of the Sun God by RanXi
they had drawn from the Sun God's power summoning an angelic champion called Redal during the Solples Taianel ritual. They had made a beacon of light in Brelhorn which empowered the Paladins and Clerics in the town. With such boons and a feeling of greater power, the Church of the Sun God went on crusades purifying the lands of Henmire. In one such trip, they had attacked a settlement called Brequil Manor, killing all of the residents except for the leaders who had been gone. Once they returned to their dead people they wanted revenge. The Brequil Manor royals went to Brelhorn where the second Solples Taianel was taking place, in which another angelic champion would be sent down to the Material Plane. The Sun God showed his anger at his followers for having been too greedy, having asked too much of Him, summoning Vretiel, who with the Brequil Manor royals killed all of the followers of the Sun God in Brelhorn.
Baron Amer by Sirielle
With Brelhorn's church having been eliminated the faith of the Sun God was left mainly only in Frelhar. With multiple forest fires and building fires having taken place in Frelhar and the surrounding towns and villages, Baron Amer saw this as the anger of the Sun God and in a public announcement to his city and surrounding realms announced that the Sun God is no longer an ally, nor god to the people but a foe. His followers were made to revoke their religion otherwise they'd be branded as heretics and be eliminated. Many of the head priests and priests in the city and surrounding towns and villages were sentenced to death - both those who revoked their faith and those who didn't. For this the baron received the title "Night Bringer".

Divine Origins

The church of the Sun God or at least the faith has existed for as long as the Sun has. Many people from the dawn of time have worshipped the celestial body that brings life and gives warmth to those of the material plane.

Ethics

A common practice of the followers of the Sun God is lighting candles and lanterns during the night to show that even during the darker hours the Sun God is still with his followers and they can still pray to him at that time if they wish.

Priesthood

A head priest leads the church, guiding prayer and reading from tomes of the Sun God leading others to a better understanding of the Sun God and what it means to be his follower. A head priest also is the one to do ceremonies appointing new holy knights - paladins. They are also the one to teach the new generation of magically gifted clerics to use their abilities.

Granted Divine Powers

The priests, clerics and paladins with a special link and affinity to the divine all receive the usual abilities that a cleric or paladin might receive by following a deity. The special and more unique boons that the Sun God has given his followers is: he has summoned angelic beings down to the material plane to assist his followers, and he has also granted power into a beacon that empowered surrounding clerics and paladins.
