Marie Theriot
Marie Theriot
Marie Theriot is a Frenchwoman who works for Nathaniel Hill at Nathaniel Hill's Coffeehouse & Tavern. She left France when it was clear that she was going to be forced to marry. Having no intentions to marry or have children, she sought help from her brother to get passage to the colonies. When she landed in Boston she chose to stay there and find what work she could. She found employment rather quickly with Nathaniel and the story of what happened to them and her brother, Henri Theriot, is detailed in Book 1: Let it Begin Here.

Personal history
Marie was never interested in marriage or children, so when her parents insisted they find a husband for her if she wouldn't do so herself, she decided to leave France. With the help of her brother, Henri, and a cousin, Pierre, she was able to leave France. Pierre worked on a trading vessel and was able to bring her onboard with some financial help from Henri. She arrived in Boston, where she quickly found work at Nat. Hill's Coffee & Drink. The business had only just opened and Nathaniel Hill was the new owner.
Marie had worried briefly about working for a man close to her age who still had no family, but he made no unwanted advances toward her from the start. She began to see a similarity between him and her brother, and became more comfortable. As time passed they developed a friendship and she eventually learned the events that led Nathaniel to Boston.
She works as a server and cook, and she learned to do laundry for herself and Nathaniel. Nathaniel pays her more than he pays himself from the house's income for the extra laundry work.
