My Inspiration from 10 Amazing Articles

This article is outside the Universe of Revole. It is for World Anvil's 2022 January reading challenge!
These are 10 articles that I've read through, and are using as inspiration for my World Building into the new year!

I

Dragons

  Author: Simo | World: Hislariya

What I learned:

  • This Article gets into the nittty gritty of Dragons, and there interaction and influence in the world. It makes the creatures feel more alive and real by offering these insights. Definitely something I want to include in my creature descriptions.
  • I love the in-depth history of Dragons in the world. Even to the point where the article acknowledges that there is much that is unknown to there history. Again, adding to the feeling of the world being alive.

World Building Inspiration

  • How do monsters influence the World around them?
  • The history and lore behind creatures from a person's perspective within the world.

II

Shattercaps

Author: Stormbril | World: Cathedris

What I learned:

  • The incredible detail of the shroom's life cycle is incredible. Each stage has a in-depth description. I love the attention to detail!
  • I really enjoyed reading about how this shroom interacts with people. From how they try to gather it, all the way to people using them as pranks.

World Building Inspiration

  • Having in-depth detail within an article makes something feel alive. It helps to make rather mundane things engrossing.
  • How things interact with the people of the world is huge! This can also be used if or when Players in the setting stumble across them

III

Saint Benedict's Tongue

Author: Rey Writes | World: Placeholder

What I learned:

  • I love the idea of making a custom language. The idea of making actual Thieve's can't slang is such an amazing idea!
  • I love the use of the dictionary in the article. Very rarely do I see it used, and it was used wonderfully here.

World Building Inspiration

  • Creating a custom language can be very immersive when used with players in a game. It also builds the world further, making it more complex. Akin to real life.
  • Using not often used features on WorldAnvil can help to make articles stand out, especially when done really well.

IV

Enter the World of Dark-Fall

Author: Ninne124 | World: Dark-Fall

What I learned:

  • The layout of this article is really interesting. I love the use of quotes and the sidebar in particular.
  • The purpose of the article I really like. A general introduction that gets readers hooked to keep reading more.

World Building Inspiration

  • Having an introductory article to bring people into the world is a really good idea!
  • Creating articles with unique layouts can be used to style the articles in the theme of the world.

V

Memory

Author: Rumengol | World: The Spheres of Oblogga

What I learned:

  • The concept behind the memories and pearls/spheres is really interesting, and weird. It gives me aberration feelings, and its very intriguing.
  • The use of images on the article is really powerful. It gives a flow to the reading, and helps readers to visualize things.

World Building Inspiration

  • Doing things that are "out there" can be really grabbing. Don't be afraid to explore new territory.
  • Use images to help break up text, and provide visual stimulus to readers.

VI

Selkirk Nero

Author: Solarcat02 | World: Vazdimet

What I learned:

  • Love the incredible detail written about this character. From his backstory all the way to his motivations and how he thinks. I feel like I know more about this guy then a real life friend.
  • The use of quotes is really interesting, as they are written by the character himself. Almost like he is commenting on himself.

World Building Inspiration

  • Making really detailed character descriptions can help to go into that characters mind when role playing.
  • Using quotes in interesting way, or changing the perspective of the quote can be really cool.

VII

Ruhrport

Author: Ethnis Team | World: Ethnis

What I learned:

  • The lore and history of this location is really interesting, as its only hinted at, not fully explained.
  • Love the descriptions of why people go this the port.

World Building Inspiration

  • The history of a location adds a complex depth to it, that can be explored to change how you initially see it.
  • The purpose behind an area makes it realistic, and helps to explain its existence.

VIII

Breaker of Chains

Author: Dylanishere123 | World: The Void Between

What I learned:

  • Love the ending. A nice cliff hanger with lots of questions that need answering. Reels in the reader really well.
  • The layout of the article is simple, yet really nice. It fits the aesthetic really nicely, and delivers the text well.

World Building Inspiration

  • Using cliff hangers, or leaving the reader with questions is a good way of keeping them invested.
  • Simple layouts and designs can have a powerful impact. Not everything needs to be really fancy looking.

IX

Caeris

Author: Zimo | World: Numidius

What I learned:

  • Really like the use of the Caeris Compass in the corner. It looks amazing, and gives you some insight into the town's style.
  • There is SO much information! It feels like a real town I could visit in real life. Love the map as well.

World Building Inspiration

  • Using some way of giving an idea of the town's style can be a neat addition.
  • Sometimes, you can never have enough detail & information. Will definitely be going a little overboard on some articles.

X

Betrayal of White Wood

Author: Jester% | World: The Sagas

What I learned:

  • This article is SOOO COOL! I love the amount of detail on the battle and town! The fact that it has links to the people who led the attack is amazing!
  • Really enjoyed the pacing of the article. It has each part of the battle in detail, from the prelude to the aftermath.

World Building Inspiration

  • Telling battles in a story format can allow for interesting perspectives and details to be seen.
  • As always, more detail is pretty much always better. Am going to for sure look back at this article when making a war.

New Year Resolutions

  • I think my main goal going into this new year is to participate in the WorldAnvil community much more than I have. I want to see the best of this group, and become a regular amongst them.
  • I want to really flesh out my world Revole, as well as make my articles more presentable, rather than have them just be blocks of text.

I hope you enjoyed going through these amazing articles and seeing my thoughts on them! Excited to see what everyone will do in 2022!
