Noble Manors of Chalon

"If you have to ask if a building belongs to one of the noble families, you aren't looking at one of their manors."

Unmistakable for their grand display of competitive opulence and facades of grandeur, the mansions and villas of Chalon's elite are monuments to material wealth more so than homes for the families who often opt to spend most of their days in their countryside keeps instead. Even so, the homes are constantly maintained by teams of servants who ensure the property is in a perpetual state of pristine perfection in case of a sudden return of the owners or the curious gazes of rival nobles.

Purpose / Function

Though many of the manors originally served a prior function such as guildhalls, chapels, high-end inns, or even governmental operations, the structures are now exclusively owned and maintained by the dozen most influential families in Chalon. Serving as locations for the season of festivities, galas, and balls, many of the mansions are not lived-in year round with the matriarchs and patriarchs of many families preferring life in their countryside estates instead. In their place, many of the younger members of the family live within Chalon but find the mansions superfluous for their needs and instead choose luxurious apartments or suites in the finest inns of Chalon from which to conduct their business.

Alterations

Under close regulation by the Founders' Promise, many of the noble manors undergo very little construction or alteration on the exterior of the structures as many are considered historic cornerstones of the city and its long, proud history. Within, the manors are often entirely gutted and updated to serve their new purpose as an event space, display of wealth, and occasionally living quarters.

Architecture

Ranging greatly in their construction period, original purpose, and personal tastes of the current owners, no two noble manors are alike. Instead, the most celebrated and revered of the structures garner their value in their unique history and presentation.
