Valley of Despair
For Centuries the Valley of Despair was isolated from the rest of Revilo. Being surrounded by the enchanted Forest of the Dead meant there was no way in or out. The natural resources of this once beautiful basin gradually became depleted by the desperate creatures trapped within the Valley. Towards the end of this confinement things reached the point of ultimate despair. Crops stopped growing. The great lake found very little life inhabiting it, and anyone who drank from it became ill. Something had to be done.
It was then, in their darkest hour, that one clever Groblynn had a brilliant idea. The now famous Boheum posed the question, “If we cannot walk through the Forest of the Dead, then why not pass beneath it?” Led by Boheum, a group of Groblynns engineered the construction of a tunnel to pass underneath the Forest of the Dead and open into the foothills of the Perilous Peaks. Once construction of The Pass was completed, the residents of the Valley were able to establish trade routes. They began acquiring resources from the rest of Revilo, and learning the tales from the other regions after their years of isolation.
The four main settlements in the Valley: Ehym, Zookmine, Hazelrock, and Wellscook have seen numerous travelers since the opening of the pass. Most of Revilo’s inhabitants believe the original god Creedona is hibernating below the Valley of Despair. Many consider it to be a sacred and holy land, and have thus flocked to it. The magic in the Valley is stronger than almost anywhere else in Revilo, so much so that some creatures claim to see a slight luminescence throughout the region.
