Forest of the Dead

The Forest of the Dead is a dense wooded area encircling the Valley of Despair. Very little life thrives in this forlorn forest. The ancient trees, once bountiful and lush with vibrantly hued leaves, are now nothing more than rotting ashen trunks. When the wind blows, the creaking sounds of their lifelessness echo throughout this bleak region. Very little light fights its way through to shine here as the desolate branches of this dense forest have found a way to weave themselves together. This looming canopy is an unmistakable blockade meant to shut out the rest of the world.
During the era of The Great Hibernation, Creedona cast an extremely powerful spell on this ring-shaped forest. Having cursed all of her own children to sleep, she still needed a way to make her sister’s progeny, the Veil, unable to walk the land.
Creedona cast a spell trapping all living things, including the Veil, within the shadows of the forest. It did not take long for the Veil, tormented by hunger, to suck the life out of all that was imprisoned with her. As she drained the life force from these beings, she used her own magic to turn them into Unliving vessels. Now they endlessly prowl throughout the Forest of the Dead for any life that can be captured and brought back to sustain the Veil.
Many chilling tales have been told of the misery awaiting anyone foolish enough to enter the Forest of the Dead, so travel through it is a path that few will take.
