Topian (toe-pee-an)

Located within the city of Topia, the Topians control most trade within Midpoint by virtue of living in the largest settlement of Midpoint. With steady supplies brought in by their own smugglers, the Topians have a constant stream of trade coming in and out of their borders, despite the arid climate of Midpoint.

History

The first Topians arrived on CA2M1 some 180 years ago, when a large intergalactic smuggler vessel, the S.S. Utopia, crashed on the moon, landing in the desert encircling the equator. With no way to repair their comm system, the crew of the Utopia had no way of contacting another ship or planet. Being a smugglers' ship, they'd been cruising on stealth mode, despite flying though a neutral zone, making it unlikely that anyone had registered the crash on their sensors, so even with 4 other inhabited moons orbiting the same gas giant as CA2M1, the crew had no hope of rescue with no way to get a message out.   By the time the ship's wreckage had been noticed and a scout vessel sent to check for survivors, the Utopia's crew had founded a settlement in Midpoint, the desert they'd crashed in, and had resigned themselves to a life onplanet. Some survivors chose to accept rescue and returned to their lives and families from before the crash, but most refused rescue, citing that they had established new lives in Midpoint.   Those who stayed in Topia became the ancestors for the majority of today's Topians.

Recommended Dress Code

Within the city limits, the dress customs are rather lax, since Topia's forcefields filter out most of the sun's heat and UV. However, the city can still get very hot during the day, and equally as cold at night. As such, the recommended dress for those walking the city is pale and lightweight fabrics, worn long and loose to protect your skin from the sun and create a cooling breeze through the fabrics. When venturing outside the city's walls, it is traditional to wear a thin scarf around your face and neck as further protection.   At night, Topian's typically put darker, thicker clothes on over the top of their lighter daywear to protect against the cold, though some prefer to change clothes entirely as the sun sets in order to rid themselves of the day's sweat and dirt.

Saviours to Staples

After their crashlanding, the original settlers of Topia soon run out of food and water as their materialisers shut down from lack of power. Left with only their wills to survive and the scarce resources of Midpoint, the crew were saved by discovering a stray group of hoiax three days journey from their crash site. In the present, hoiax are still a favourite food of the Topians and are even featured on the city's flag.
