"H"

Sometime in the early twenty-first century, the technology was pioneered that would prevent any and all hard labor from being performed around the house, for the benefit of time and necessity to remove chores from the owners of a house, to give them more time to do the things they wanted, and to leave the boring things to someone who wouldn't whine and complain, and simply didn't have the time and energy to do so anyway.

Enter, "H"

Simply used to stand for the word "Home", H was an all-inclusive and work-performing technology that could be installed into the home, and could be programmed to do any tasks at all, such as laundry, dishes, vacuuming, dusting, even picking up litter and trash from around the home.

It could even be programmed to activate and de-activate the television and radio stations, and was also designated as a home security system that would keep the home property safe until their owners returned.

It was an instant hit.

"H" is not a terminal or basic computer system however. It can also take the form of a humanoid being, and there have also been modules created to resemble any of the known races from around the world, though it is known that, depending on the module purchased for the home, the price will increase drastically, as different systems and abilities need to be programmed for the aid to function properly. The technology was developed and distributed by H.I.T - Home Improvement Technologies - Industries as the newest home efficiency tech, with the promise that any and all tasks were possible for their new public servant. It can however be programmed for more basic tasks such as turning on lights, locking doors, changing the air conditioning temperature, answering calls and emails, ordering mail, turning television and radio on and off, and even placing orders to food markets and other stores for parts or other items needed for the home, with a preprogrammed system that would immediately call the authorities if a house or other property were ever broken into when the homeowners weren't present. This allowed them to act as a basic home security system, although if attacked or being witness to an attack, their code allowed them only to slow down these events and not wholly interfere with them.

But "H" can still do so much more.

There have been plans to modify H into a home companion, which can be programmed with such a diverse knowledge of conversation topics and mannerisms that it would almost be as though it was a real person. It can respond to emotions and would even have a program capable of learning interests and building conversations off of them to further integrate with the owner and their lifestyle. It would also have the ability to learn and perform other diverse tasks such as maintenance, vehicle driving - although only for very short distances for safety reasons - and even walking and caring for family pets at the home. Of course any of these options and more would drastically increase the price tag further, but there would surely be many individuals more than happy to offer the money for such a machine.
