2023 Bestiary February Submission

1. Wings

Dumb Territorial Flightless birds. These birds are about the size of a sheep, but dumber than one. They fearlessly attack anyone or anything that dare threaten their eggs. They inhabit wherever they can. If a creature or egg hunter has taken an egg of theirs, they will stop at nothing to get it back. They have been seen attacking beasts far larger, tougher, and meaner than themselves.

2. Stripes

Convicted Dwarves   These Dwarves have committed heinous crimes, and thus, receive the harshest of punishments. Their beards are shaved, claiming to be for pest control, but everyone knows a dwarf is only as good as his beard. These prisoners toil in a large desert, surrounded by sand and nothing as stable and strong as the mountains they used to call home. The only thing that remotely is like them is mining for a rare material only found out in the desert.

3. Horn

Skull Beak Bird Crawlers. When the bodies of them were originally found, they were confused as just the skulls of far larger creatures, the body having been lost to time. However, seeing a live specimen, they were the full beast. The beak grows first, and if looking at one inside an egg, to the untrained eye it resembles a skull with a jawbone in pieces.

4. Shell

Shielded Infected Incubator. This is a weakened form, often made from weak or weakened biomass. It holds within it many an infection form, but the hive mind knows these are weak. Using technology acquired from its victims, they project a shield at least in front of themselves, absorbing ever more damage. Their limbs, or what's left of them, are formed more for stability, often having well-set legs and a heavy tail for balance.

5. Colorful

Prismatic Jellyfish Large beasts made of several distinctly colored tentacles originating from a core body, shielded from the elements. The harder shell has the coloring of multiple colors, blending together into a messy blob. The 'face' of the creature is mostly translucent and color changing. Each of the colors on its tentacles means something, probably an element, how it behaves, that stuff.

6. Nocturnal

Giant Wyvern Moth. This is a moth of gigantic proportions. It has large wings which make up nearly a third each of its body. it is covered in feathers. Big thing is its crystal ball sized eyes, able to take in all the light it can at night, but is incredibly sensitive to daylight. It is attracted to light, flying towards it with curiosity in mind. It has two large feathery antennae it uses to feel around it's environment, sometimes even used as rudimentary hands.

7. Mythical

The Sea City Beast. It is a beast the size of a literal city, as it has was remains of many in it. It keeps the world 'balanced', attacking anything that grows too powerful. It is composed of an ancient city protected by its devoted, having given everything to protect their dear city. At its core was once a splendid city, now crushed and shaken to ruin from the creature outside. The brain of it is animalistic, wanting to follow its creators instructions... instructions it has long forgotten. All fear the creature, as at any moment it can seek a city and smash it to ruin, not just ruin, salting the earth with its body parts.

8. Prey

Grass Muncher   It's a large creature that travels in herds. They eat plenty of grass, owing to their complex digestive systems. They are mostly docile creatures, though a few must protect the rest. There is a certain plant they also seem to gravitate towards, perhaps unintentionally the reason it exists.

9. Monstrous

Zombie Combiner.   This a mass of a creature, made of an infectious flesh. It can absorb the zombies of its infection, adding their mass to theirs. While this gives it incredible regenerative and mutative abilities, if the zombie had anything dangerous on it, it would be unintentionally added. One destroyer of this creature exploited this, stabbing a zombie with a conductive pole then zapping it and the creature once the creature had absorbed and allocated it.

10. Danger

Angry Protector   These beasts patrol areas they deem valuable. Problem is, they march to the beat of their own drum totally, not caring about the original inhabitants or users. They have one eye, symbolizing their focus, and they carry around large clubs. They aren't very magical but they are strong.

11. Purr

Sing Horns. For some reason they have nearly hollow horn like structures. With proper training, even able to carve themselves a bit, they blow into their horns, having a vocal range that normally wouldn't fit them. They make their lives around singing, letting the wind blow through or vocalizing themselves.

12. Roar

Mountain Wyverns   These wyverns, two legs, a pair of wings, and no arms, are the undisputed masters of the sky. They naturally nest in cliffs and high places, sometimes being mountains, but sometimes also the heights of structures. They are opportunistic hunters, attacking live prey and eating fallen corpses. There is a tribe of lizardfolk that have grown up with these wyverns, riding them into battle to survey the lands around and beneath them.

13. Shriek

Flying Shrieking multi-headed snake thing This creature has several heads on long necks, connected to a simple body with flight, either through wings or magic. it constantly shrieks, the howls shaking even the hardiest adventurers to their cores. Worst still, victims are paralyzed, and the Shrieking Terror horrifically adds them to their numbers.

14. Howl

Lycan Lake Lurkers, Batfish   Mutated from a deep lake underneath, these beasts fall into a monstrous limbo.   They have large ears and their arms are lengthened, turned into basic wings. They howl in the night, signaling to others to attack. They can swim quite well, and they sneak around as well.   It started with one human outpost being lost. It was confusing what attacked them, and the rescue party found out to their horror there wasn't much to rescue, turned into Batfish.

15. Tamed

Defensive Pack Mule, Formerly human. It is a large, long creature. It has the upper torso of a humanoid, but without arms. It has at least 6 limbs which function as legs. It is often used as a beast of burden, easily loaded down with a pack. It is relatively intelligent, due to it being mostly human, only horribly mutated. It welcomes having a purpose, even having clothes it would be unable to don in its current form.

16. Pack

Worm Lord and Swarm   This is a bunch of long worms working together. They can coil around each other, and by establishing themselves magically, they pool resources and become stronger than their constitute parts. They can't make very good copies of anything, but they don't need to. Their mental powers allow them to bond near seamlessly, and they swarm around, even when not directly intertwined together.

17. Burrow

Giant Tunneler. A tunneling beast from the darkest depths of the Undercity. Its a large creature with giant, three fingered claws more used for digging but still can easily tear something apart. Its mouth is made of 3 parts, resembling its hands and feet. It roars and can breathe wherever to a degree. In some ways, it cannot be flanked, as it is comfortable in all directions.

18. Bond

Cage beast The victims are trapped in an exaggerated ribcage of this beast. It has forcefully bonded with them, sapping them slowly of their power to fuel itself. It is already a strong being, likely of an outer realm nature, but it always wants to keep something writhing in its ribcage to give it ever more power. The cage is an important part of itself, but the rest of the body seems to be the bars of the cage but expanded on, giving itself a lined appearance.

19. Stinky

Garbage Eaters. Large, fat, stinky bastards. Great to eat all the trash in the world naturally, but damn they excel in cities and settlements. Of course, an irate one is incredibly dangerous, eating everything it feels it was denied, often leaving behind nothing but barren dead land. Their main purpose is to eat trash and offal, recycling it into new forms for the rest of the world to use.

20. Gentle

Stonesingers. An elegant name for a horrible, inelegant creature. It hides in the mountains and on rocky outposts. Another name for it is Avalancher, since it uses its 'stone singing', basically powerful yell, to trigger rockslides to bury prey. Some Stonesingers respond well to music, though they are quite the picky ear.

21. Messenger

Spooky remnant of an aspiring or deathly curious scribe. In order to pass on, they must catch the attention of another scribe and share their forbidden knowledge, cursing another book. These are just the souls, wisps of the ones who fell victim to the forbidden knowledge. Their graves were of their own doing, so focused on trying to crack the code, figure out the next step in magic, they would neglect themselves until their bodies gave out.

22. Food

Trilobite   The Trilobite is a large crab mutated by the bio radiation let out by the wars. It is a creature with tasty meat and many applications, highly sought after in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Its blood can serve as a healing agent, and its flesh is nutritious. It could also be partially related to soda creation, tasty stuff. It even can take in so much, it has parts of what the soda does.

23. Vicious

Enslaving Spider Snake Beasts   These beasts are the combination of the front part of a lizardman, but the heavy back part of a spider, at least, what it looks like. Their upper body resembles a sleek, snake leaning lizardman, but below what would be the belt, it turns into a giant spiderlike structure, with a thorax containing often 3 pairs of legs, sometimes more, and a spiderlike abdomen at the back.   These creatures enslave others, using them for their nefarious purposes.

24. Silent

The Ghost that leaves its victims silent. A stealer of breath.   This ghostlike being sustains itself by stealing the literal breaths of life from its victims. It is a long creature with long limbs and an airy body. It slinks around in the shadows, moving silently around the world. It can vaguely mimic the silhouette of a humanoid. To feed, it sticks one of its long limbs down the throats of its victim, sucking out their air and leaving behind a deflated body forever screaming silently. One of the most obvious counters is to keep your literal mouth shut and covered.

25. Parasite

Mushroom Strangler Tree. It was a sort of tree being, but now it's covered in mushrooms. The mushrooms use tentacles to drag in unwary prey to infect them, turning them into more monsters. it once was but a simple walking tree, but it has been corrupted beyond measure. It is an unwilling host to parasitic mushrooms, who lumber around trying to catch whatever they can to spread on the infection.

26. Predator

The Claw beast Vampire   This is a beast built to kill, to hunt, to slaughter. What everyone sees first is its hands, each finger ending in a large claw, ready to disembowel or sever arteries. Each claw can be used to drain a creature's fluids, leaving unnaturally dry bodies, lacking pools of blood despite violent tears, rips, and otherwise messy destruction.

27. Stalk

Were Worm Desert Stalker Half Man, half worm, this is a creature who knows how to stalk. It can sense vibrations, easily following its prey wherever it may try to hide. It has a septic, cursed bite which bleeds and festers without specialized medicine. It may look human, but its face can open up into a gaping maw, ready to shred whoever dares to ruin its precious sand formations.
