Northern Belephant

The Northern Belephant is a related cousin to the Wilds Belephant, though somewhat smaller in size. Other than their darker color and thick dreads of fur that cover their bodies, they have all of the same capabilities as their relatives in the savanna; yet speak a different dialect than they do in the southernmost regions of the world. When humans first began colonizing this region of the world, they hunted the Belephant along with all of the other megafauna in the region, not knowing that they were a sentient species. Driven almost to extinction, the Northern Belephant continued to retreat further and further north until they reached the The Hollow Mountains. What remained of their numbers were eventually taken captive by the human empires.   Today, the Northern Belephants are scattered accross The Artwinian Empire, Kellumlund, The Ornithian Empire and The Gremeliam Empire. They are used for highly labor intensive jobs such as moving heavy material and assisting in construction. Despite many attempts on behalf of the Belephants, the humans have only noticed that they are more intelligent than the average species and are able to take commands well. Some Belephants are used for entertainment in circuses and traveling stage performers. However when one Northern Belephant meets another they speak in secret and pass along messages to one another. Talks of escape and mass insurrection are butting heads with trepidation and depression. Whatever it is that the Belephants are discussing, or doing in their spare time, is never heeded by the humans who think them yet another animal because they are not bipedal.
