The Murmuring Woods

Where the trees whisper in deafening silence.

The Murmuring Woods are a vast forest of bone white Ghostwood trees. The few small tribes of the Hinterlands speak of these woods in hushed voices, and fearful tones. Various tribal legends claim that the woods are cursed. Some say that demons or malevolent spirits inhabit the trees, while others claim that an ancient and terrible god is held, trapped within its borders. Regardless of which tale is to be believed, none who know the stories will travel those woods willingly.

Geography

This forest is vast and tightly packed. The majority of the forest is flat or low, hilly land, allowing the rivers to flow freely. The Ghostwood trees are sparse of leaves, but their many branches create a thick spider web overhead that obscures almost all light from filtering in.
An unsettling aura hangs over the entire forest, and after entering the woods, all sound slowly becomes muffled as if being heard through water, and only a quiet, constant murmuring can be heard coming from every direction. The murmuring voices seem to be emanating from the trees, but it is impossible to be sure.

Fauna & Flora

The Murmuring Woods are a dense forest of spindly Ghostwood trees, all reaching their bony limbs toward the sky. The forest is filled with many different types of edible plants and herbs and flowing streams of clear water, but travelers would be quick to notice the utter lack of fauna of any kind. No squirrels sit in the trees, no rabbits hop amongst the bushes, no birds fly through the skies... no bugs or worms even make their homes in the dirt.

Natural Resources

Ghostwood could in theory be gathered for firewood, or crafting, but those smart enough to know better will not touch the trees at all. Fresh water is also a valuable resource that can be found here, alongside the plentiful forageable plants and herbs.
