What is Remnants?

In short terms: A community-wide fan retelling of RWBY. Our own animations. Our own music. Something that is still RWBY at its core, but produced by the fans and distinctly fanmade.   Remnants, simply put, is a community project meant to bring the talents and enthusiasm of the FNDM together to create an alternate retelling of Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth’s RWBY from the ground up.   Initially created as a response to my growing dissatisfaction with the show’s direction, I have since realized that making a project intended to “replace” the canon of RWBY would only divide the fandom further. Instead, I want to bring them together with what I would call the most ambitious, largest love letter to RWBY and its community we can make: A fanmade version of Remnant and a retelling of RWBY’s story in that world, that shares the same characters, setting, themes and major arcs, but retold in our own unique way, as our way of paying homage to the one that started it all: Monty Oum’s RWBY.   This is my goal pretty much. I hope to make something that the many scattered camps of the fandom put aside their differences and make something that shows the love we all shared for RWBY. Is it too “inclusive”? Trying to include everyone where it may not be possible? Perhaps. But to me, a finished product isn’t my main concern. It’s the message to the fandom - the call to welcome those who love RWBY to create something big together. Something that can excite a long-time fan with something new and entirely community-driven. Something that can bring back the spark of creative love in a jaded fan. Something that can show that we as a FNDM, different as we may be, but united by the same love for RWBY, are capable of great things.   I expect lots of backlash. A lot of misunderstandings. And just realistic views that this just seems impossible. To ask the scarred, divided RWBY fandom, with its colourful and unflattering reputation for toxicity, to work together on something. And yeah, I’m not expecting a huge or expansive turnout or anything. But I see the potential this fandom has, its capacity to create some amazing stuff inspired from RWBY. I see it in my own Discord server. And I think we can be capable of it if we try.   I know I want it to be marketable and in the good graces of RT as basically a flagship community project to “give back” to RWBY in our own way. I know I want to involve the support of major pillars of the community or at least gain their support like RWBY YouTubers, fan animators, fanartists, fanfiction writers, etc. if possible.   The main tangible goal is to create a story or animation similar to RWBY itself, but the other thing is to also create an AU world where the FNDM can participate in and create their own stories in. Like if Mark Zhang’s SLVR universe was something he disclosed the lore for and the fans can participate and make fanart for it, it being both associated with RWBY yet its own distinct entity. But he has his own trusted team of contributors to make the actual canon world and story.  

Purpose of This Document

An encyclopedia and easy reference of the world of this project. In it will be contained info of the world and its people. Organized from larger or broader scale content, to smaller or more detailed and specific content.

Premise

"The Swords of Our Fathers; The Swords of Our Children."   The creed of the Huntsmen Academies and of the Kingdom of Vale, of the greatest four Nations in Remnant. Beset on all sides by the Creatures of Grimm, born from a cataclysm long ago that shattered Remnant's moon, the Four Nations are separated, heavily fortified and stand as the bastions of stability and civilization for humanity.

A sci-fi world with fantasy and mystical elements. Enter the world of Remnant, a modern world of guns and airships, but also strange creatures, animal people and numerous allusions to mythology and fairy tales.   A world ravaged by an unknown hostile force. Enter the Grimm. Born from the collective regrets, fears and insecurities of humanity, they are the dark side of humanity given physical form, a complete antithesis to the bright, optimistic world of the story.   An order of ancient and venerated warriors with unique powers and weaponry. Enter the Huntsmen, the defenders of Remnant. Armed with amazing weapons and powers, these are the people you wish you could become. Strong, courageous and noble, they are the symbols of peace and strength in a ravaged world.
