Dyramad (Dear-am-add)
The Dyramad are a sapient species found only on the planet Zeala-Obon. Though they are officially classified as a subspecies of Dzyrad, most consider themselves a species in their own right. Unlike the other Dzyrads, the Dyramad are a parasitic species who share a symbiotic relationship with the Kar-Tiin, living mainly off their sap (also called blood).
Like other Dzyrads, the Dyramad can trace their ancestry to the dryads, who settled on Zeala-Obon with other descendents of the Jurassic Time Displaced. Dyramads can also trace their ancestry to the vampires of the same group.
Dyramads, like the dryads, have their own tree which grows during their infancy. In both cases, the tree is considered part of their body; however, while dryad trees are replaceable, Dyramad trees (called moon trees) are not. Unlike dryad trees, moon trees can move of their own accord if needed, for example when there is an immediate threat to the area. For a Dyramad to lose their moon tree is not necessarily fatal, at least not immediately; but secondary starvation can occur if adequate aid is not found. A Dyramad cannot re-bond with a Kar-Tiin if there is no moon tree for the Kar-Tiin to bond with.
When a Dyramad is born, it remains rooted to its mother most of the time for around half a year, gradually detaching itself and planting its own roots over the last four months. An infant Dyramad must remain rooted most of the time. In the times when it separates (or self-segments) from its moon tree/roots, it is not fully segmented, but still connected by a long pliable vine commonly referred to as the postnatal umbilical cord.
