Brandan Argent Character in Relativity | World Anvil

Brandan Argent

Brandant Argent was the owner of two silver mines in the Americas and a silver ore processing plant. When the zombie moral panic spread across North America in 2074, he capitalised on the fear by producing and marketing anti-zombie products.   Since zombies are allergic to silver, Argent Industries sold devices to protect the home, protective clothing, and personal defensive weapons. The quantity of silver in them varied, but all contained enough to provoke a reaction.   The zombie community protested the selling of these products, but at the time the law was not on their side, and for many years their argument fell on deaf ears. Human citizens, fearful of a second wave of zombieism and/or zombie attacks, bought up Argent's products and made him a multibillionaire. He had already been well-connected in political circles and his influence delayed the laws which would make his products illegal, to the point where three senators who opposed his actions were forced to resign.   When Gray Eye was founded, they sent a siren undercover as Brandan Argent's personal assistant, to find out details of his personal connections in order to better navigate around them. What they did not know was that he knew about Zartriites, enough to be able to identify her as such. She went missing right after sending a message to say she thought she'd been made. Mark Bourne put the police on Argent's trail, but the case was closed after one of Argent's employees confessed to having murdered her.   Gray Eye, convinced that Argent had committed the murder and was bribing his way out of trouble, took matters into their own hands and kidnapped him. An in-depth investigation showed that he had some very distasteful anti-zombie and anti-Zartriite ties. During an interrogation, one of their vampire agents went rogue, and turned him, deciding that having the silver allergy himself was one step closer to justice. Bourne condemned the act, but acknowledged that it gave them a new option for long-term imprisonment.   Argent's own house had been coated in paint containing real silver. After removing all means of communication with the outside world, he was moved there by Gray Eye members who did not react to silver. They delivered food and basic necessities once a week and kept him under surveillance. After finding enough evidence to have convicted for their agent's murder, they chose not to take it to the authorities, based on the risk of him using his influence once again to avoid legal imprisonment.   When the Unnecessary Silver Act was finally passed, Brandan Argent's silver empire fell, and his situation was discovered when his house was reposessed. Gray Eye faced charges for holding him prisoner, but once his own crimes were revealed, he was put on trial for murder, and convicted.
