The Sojourn

All senior students of the Nabeau Academy and the Silver Academy are required by senatorial law to take The Sojourn: A journey through the Eye of the Universe to locations within the Old Empire’s Pre-Calamity sphere of control but outside of Metropolitan space. The purpose of these potentially dangerous expeditions is the recovery of Old Empire technology and relics before such vestiges can be acquired by the Renge or Mainyu. While both Academies seek to limit the danger to their students posed by such bold missions, there are many Student Scouts that have died. Over a quarter of the legendary first class of Student Scouts through the gates, led by the infamous Tomas Dumah, never returned. However, because of the extreme threat that the Mainyu represent to all life in the Reknown-galaxy, such losses are tolerated by the Metropolis Senate, the M.S.F., and Metropolitan society. Completing the Sojourn removes the two-year service in the Metropolis Security Force requirement for full Metropolitan citizenship. Those that choose to enter the M.S.F. after completing the Sojourn are granted Y-3 payment and retirement benefits.
