Drakin Virus

A painful and exhausting viral infection specifically ailing the Drakin people. The infection targets the immune system and forcefully pushes out the immune cells from all the body's pores. The afflicted Drakin typically do not survive this. Normal healing spells, herbal soups, and potions have kept up the health of the afflicted, but as the virus has a life of about 10 days this only prolonged the production of the immune cell liquid before the afflicted passed away.
The immune cells expelled from the afflicted Drakin can be collected and bottled. It has been tested to be a very strong healing tonic, much stronger than any healing potion currently made with normal ingredients, even diluted.

Symptoms

This infection generally lasts about a week, is extremely painful/exhausting, and is highly fatal.

Prognosis

It is highly fatal. 1 in 500 cases are likely to survive; even then, chances are slim.

Sequela

For those that survive, recuperation requires large quantities of liquid, highly mineral- and protein-dense food followed by, at most, a month of near-comatose sleep. When healed, the Drakin is immune to further infections of this virus and strength is strangely doubled of what it was before the infection.   The immune cell fluid that is pushed from the body is highly beneficial when applied to wounds. The inflicted person is placed in a tub and various other containers are placed around and changed for the duration of the illness to collect the fluid.

Cultural Reception

Those that are inflicted with this virus are pitied and showered with attention.   The illness itself is feared due to it's high mortality rate, but those inflicted with it are revered for the healing liquid that is produced.
