The Pentan Church

The Pentan Church has resided on Rehu since Archbishop Sapphira recorded The Book of Visions  in 1 AS. As you can see, it was this very event that was marked as the first year of the modern era by church reckoning (the only formalized date record in those days). Comprised of the five Pillars of Order (also known as the gods), the pantheon is the heart of mainstream religion on Rehu for the better part of a millennium.
The Pentan's greatest time of strength was certainly the Theocracy- a period marked by the founding of Oro City in 10 AS to the destruction of Chesterton and the burning of the great libraries in 310 AS. During this time, the church functioned as the religious body, government structure, education system, and military. It was the first attempt at a unified Rehu and especially considering the available technology and raw size of the land, most historians consider it a success. It is generally agreed that the endeavor was doomed to fail, given the lack of ability to communicate between city centers and maintain order in the countless rural communities, as well as the noted stagnation in medical advancement in favor of divine magic leading to disease taking hold in areas without dedicated priests. However, the mere fact it was able to exist for nearly three centuries unopposed is considered impressive.
Even after the Calignance, the Pentan Church retained a portion of its power. The countries of Rehu, divided once more along lines of race, chose for themselves whether to retain the Church and its gods. The Humans of Panchamp and the Halflings from Littany were among the most notable, though even the latter attended the faith more out of tradition than true devotion. Each other nation, with the exception of the Dragonborn, allowed the Church to maintain a presence, and it's influenced waxed and waned in differing amounts through the years.
