Ever-smoke Glass

"It's a vision I tell you, a vision of beauty, see these lenses, see these beads, and I even have this beautiful dagger. Show your taste and style with these icons of our great volcano, show your allegiance to Reef and all within it! Have the glass with the night and stars trapped within it, all poished and cut by the great Berkins and Frank jewellers. Guaranteed real stuff."  Jeweller at the Rasht city center   "Personally I wouldn't been seen dead with that tatty glass these days, it's beautiful but so much is counterfiet and I don't feel like explaining how mine is not cooked up in some pillars basement. Tiara's, bracelets, rings and even the tops of staffs, it's everywhere. I still have a necklace, belonged to my mother, back when only a select few could get the glass. Each piece of it studded in a alternative diamond, smoke glass, pattern, so you've got the lovely glitter of diamond, followed by the star studded darkness of the glass. I used to play with it as a child, I loved to see the rainbow patterns spill across the wall, punctured by those dark shadows. Perhaps I might wear it again, on a casual day" Della Lorin - Daughter of the Guild Mistress of Mechanisms and Fineworks
Ever-smoke glass is on occasion spat out by the Ever-smoke Volcano, the giants and dwarfs who live there don't care much for it and when found sell it on to jewellers and other craftsmen of Reef. Often called, Night-diamonds this glass is worn as jewellery or used in art pieces or displays.

Properties

Material Characteristics

The unique nature of the glass appears to suck in light, leaving only tiny fractures and imperfections that glow with all the absorbed light. This leaves each glass almost opaque with studded dots of light spread throughout. Like many of Reef's oddities the glass does not appear to be magical, however, scientists have yet to be able to explain how it functions.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The glass is completely inert, and in some notable cases has been used as part of glitzy alchemists kits. The glass is not easily smashed, but when it does break tends to have jagged edges.

Origin & Source

The material was only found on the Ever-smoke Volcano until in the last 50 years a journeyman with the Guild of Alchemists found a way to create the glass through using the sands around the Volcano, including that sand that often blows off the volcano onto the broken isles. The resulting glass is almost indistinguishable from the real thing, with only experts able to tell the difference though many do remark that the stars of the fake glass are much less closely packed. While this is not an inexpensive process it has made the glass far more attainable and it is no longer just those in high society that can afford it.
