Eliezer Kavei Tiviaev-Raginhari

(a.k.a. Elie)

The "true protagonist" of Red Sky -- or, more bluntly, "the one who actually gets shit done". (His words, not mine.)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Under Elikai's control, generally pretty healthy, as Elikai keeps him in at least somewhat good shape. Once he's freed from Elikai's control, he has to learn how to control his own body, so for a while, it's difficult for him to move, walk, run, and do normal things that other humans typically know how to do from birth. When he's finally taught himself how to move like a normal human, his reflexes are pretty good, while his movements can sometimes be a bit awkward; however, his agility makes up for any shortcomings he has, as he's extremely adept in finding places to dart away to, as well as openings his enemy might have.

Body Features

Skin tone is a medium brown from his dominant Mizrahi Israeli roots.

Facial Features

His hair is a seemingly natural white, though it was jet-black when he was born; his eyebrows are a mix between black and white, like salt-and-pepper. Elie's face is pretty thin due to malnutrition, and his eyes are a wine-red due to Elikai's influence on his body; unfortunately, shortly after Elikai leaves his host, and in the middle of his siphoning Elie's size, when they are about two-and-a-half feet tall each, the two of them get into a huge physical fight, and Elikai rips out Elie's right eye, which never grows back, and ends up covered by a series of bandages with magitech installed that keep his depth perception normal. (It's also an attempt to regrow the eye, but there was only ever a small chance of it working, and it ends up not doing so.)

Identifying Characteristics

Across his back, Elie has an extensive burn scar that warps his flesh even after it's healed. This is due to him burning off the identifying bar code tattoo that Elikai gave him when Elikai was still in control of his body -- Elikai got it in order to identify himself, but also to inflict emotional damage on Elie.

Physical quirks

Elie's walking pattern is a little bit awkward at times due to him only recently learning how to walk for extended periods of time under his own ability. His posture is usually more formal, as being in control of his own body for once means he is extremely aware of how it rests and moves.

Special abilities

Elie's agility is heightened because of the Nanite influence; he moves almost like a panther or other large cat, fluid, and definitely noticeably inhuman. His eyesight is somewhat worse than a regular human's, though, as Nanite eyesight is poor and Elie suffers the aftereffects of Elikai's long-standing control. Elie's magic in the first draft is largely based in kabbalah, but is undergoing review at the moment.

Apparel & Accessories

Elie constantly wears his tefillin, which serve as a magic conduit for the magitech he's installed with; he has protections placed on it to make sure it never gets dirty, smudges, or has the paint fade. The Torah portion inside is under even more magical guard so as to keep it completely protected no matter what.   Elie's wardrobe usually consists of skinny jeans, which he finds easy to move around in, and sleeveless vests or T-shirts.

Specialized Equipment

His tefillin is his most trusted and effective weapon, being as it is his magic conduit, but Elie is also very adept with normal weapons, particularly close-range ones such as knives. Due to Elikai being with him almost since birth, Elie's body has also changed to reflect that, and he is able to call out the typical Nanite claws and tail, though his skin isn't /quite/ as hard as a Nanite's; it is, however, approaching it, so human weapons do take a significantly longer time to pierce his body.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

From near the time of his birth, Elie has had Elikai controlling his body. He was the experiment to see how early Nanites could 'bond' with their human hosts; if humans were able to do so from nearly the beginning of their lives, the conquest of humanity would have much fewer room for error. The test went successfully and Elie was only given occasional moments of control by Elikai, who used such moments to taunt Elie. He also had to deal with the harsh reality that his parents looked at him like someone who wasn't to be trusted; they felt terrible for it, of course, but their intuition was spot-on, as Elikai was always the one controlling their son's body in front of them.   Elikai uses Elie's body to run away at age fourteen. Shortly after, he finds out how to siphon Elie's size, and because of it, is able to reduce Elie down to the height that Elikai used to be as a Nanite. He feels no need to keep Elie around after torturing him before he becomes too small to see, but instead lets him loose into the world, convinced that Elie won't make it ten feet out the door, considering how small he is.   What he doesn't expect is for one of his previous allies, Malaise, to meet Elie and to fall in platonic love with him. She helps him escape and eventually regain his size, though this isn't done until after Elie is able to find his parents, Jordan, and the rest of the rebellon sect. Malaise assigns herself as his caretaker until he is able to grow back with the repurposed machine in the Genesis Labs Delta site.   After growing back, Elie is able to pick up magitech and begin the hunt for Elikai to make him suffer for what he's done not only to humanity but to Elie personally.

Gender Identity

Trans male.

Sexuality

Bisexual.

Education

Even though Elikai controlled him his entire life, Elie still got education from school; being a backseat driver in his own mind doesn't mean he was unable to see and hear what was going on around him. His parents also sent him to Hebrew school, so Elie is fluent in English, Hebrew, and can fumble his way pretty convincingly around Yiddish.

Accomplishments & Achievements

His single greatest accomplishment is taking his life back from Elikai. He doesn't count it as an accomplishment that he caused, since it was just Elikai losing interest in him, but he does count the fact that he escaped despite Elikai ripping out his eye as an accomplishment. Even if Malaise helped him, he survived until she came along, which is more than a small accomplishment considering he was smaller than a flea and given no tools with which to defend himself. He also counts still being in love with Judaism as an accomplishment; Elikai hated it and participating in it, so the fact that Elie still adores it makes him happy, since it would be easy to end up hating it by association.

Failures & Embarrassments

His self-hatred tells him that his being controlled for so long was his own fault; therefore, he views it as an embarrassment and failure, even though it's far from that.

Mental Trauma

Elie is extremely paranoid once he leaves Elikai, not only because he's sure Nanites will be coming after him, but also because he's used to there being two presences in his mind; one means that there's far less awareness and that everything is based on his own senses, which he knows are probably somewhat unreliable as he's used to them being under his control again. He also suffers from intense self-loathing and refuses to feel bad for himself -- only to hate himself, which causes him to have a difficult time actually mourning what he lost of life, even though he acknowledges he did.

Morality & Philosophy

Like many Jews, Elie believes in the concept of "tikkun olam", or "repairing the world". However, that takes a sort-of backseat to getting Elikai out of power ("sort of" because removing Elikai from power will surely be considered an act of tikkun olam). Elie's morality is one that many people might condemn at first glance -- he believes that people who are abusive, harmful, and the like deserve retribution. Many might consider a hero as someone who shows mercy to the villain because they are so good, but Elie's refusal to let Elikai off the hook for what he did and his focus on making Elikai pay for the pain he's caused people (Elie included) is arguably far better, as Elikai isn't the kind of person who is able to change, and wouldn't want to, anyway.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Much of Elie's motivation is revenge on Elikai for stealing his life from him. He can never get those years of his life back, and he constantly had to watch his parents look at him with distrust, so he wants to make sure that Elikai feels the pain and misery that he did. However, he doesn't do this at the risk of the health and safety of the people he loves (namely his parents, but Malaise and a few others as well). His first priority is to make sure that they'll be safe, and then to go after Elikai and make him suffer.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Elie's main ineptitude is his inexperience as a human. Some of it is internal; he blames himself for not trying hard enough (unsurprising, as Elikai emotionally abused him and planted this thought in his head constantly), he blames himself for not being able to carry his body like a human, he blames himself for not being able to instantly revert back to being human after years of being Nanite-controlled -- so self-hatred is also an ineptitude, but he is right in that he's inexperienced with behaving as a human. As long as he feels as if he doesn't truly belong with humans, it has negative effects on his mentality, and therefore on himself as a person as well.

Virtues & Personality perks

His anger is righteous; unlike most characters where they let their anger control them, Elie's is only a guiding force in his motivation. He is able to think rationally, and merely is holding onto the anger he's been feeling at his abuser his entire life. Some characters who don't know him might assume that he may go berserk when he eventually sees Elikai again, but the truth is anything but; Elie's anger is a cool and calm anger that has reason to exist and a clear, rational goal.   He also cares about the people he's surrounded by far more than he lets on -- Elie is a stoic person, so it's tough to tell sometimes, but he does little things for people important to him that show he truly cares, even if he's not entirely sure how to show it verbally.

Vices & Personality flaws

His self-hatred is a constant force in his life. While he's very good at maintaining a rational goal regardless, no doubt it would be far more effective if he didn't assume he had as many shortcomings as he did. Physically, he knows that he's incredibly strong and fast, but mentally, he assumes the worst of himself and therefore assumes the worst from himself in the situations he plans out to achieve his goal.

Personality Quirks

He has the opposite of tics and quirks for quite a long time -- Elie has been controlled for so long that he sometimes forgets he controls his face or body, and has to consciously make expressions, answer people, and things of that nature. As time goes on, this fades bit by bit.

Social

Religious Views

Elie is pretty significantly religious. He is Jewish and observes Orthodox, though he sticks to the synagogues that are beginning to accept LGBT Jews, since he's bi and a trans male. He doesn't let traditionalist views stop him and davens when he can, participating in minyanim when he can, and lays tefillin every day (after Elikai is defeated, when he can freely do so and no longer wears his tefillin constantly).

Social Aptitude

Closed-off and wary. He has a right to be, with what happened to him, but people still tend to think he doesn't like them, especially when he's short with them like he is to most people. In fact, people are usually shocked to learn that he likes them, as there are no cues that they can pick up on to confirm that. It's just that Elie has a hard time expressing his emotions after Elikai's control.

Mannerisms

Elie thinks for a while about what he says, unless he's fired up, in which case he can usually put an opponent in an argument to shame with his quick wit. If he's not fired up, he generally only speaks when he needs to or to offer advice about something -- or to make sarcastic comments if he's pissed off.

Speech

His voice is stuck in a perpetual teenage girl's tone, as Elikai stunted parts of his growth, and since he's not on testosterone. However, this doesn't make it any less intimidating when he wants it to be, even if Malaise teases him and calls it 'cute'. He also has a somewhat prominent Israeli accent, which takes most people a while to guess the origin of, considering Israeli accents are somewhere between Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and American.
