When the wearer dies, this amulet (over the course of a few hours) reanimates them and brings them back to life. Unfortunately the amulet does not work if placed on someone who has already died, as the magic works in a very interesting way.
The way it works, is that once it's put on the person, it crafts a perfect, healthy clone of them and stores it inside, in a manner of speaking, and them regenerates your dead body by filling in the missing pieces in the DNA or actual physical makeup of the wearer. This description is rough due to the fact that the object is magic, and cannot be easily be described with scientific terms.
