The Purple Star

The most beloved flower among the Immortals is a small bloom called the purple star. It covers vast fields in spring and summer wherever the midday sun shines. Why it is so loved only the oldest may yet remember, but everyone knows the famous legend of the Battle for Flowers.

The legend states that for some reason two families of the Immortals were fighting. There likely was a very good reason, but that reason has been lost because the re-tellers ceased caring about ancient reasons. Anyway, one side preferred running to fighting and was in the process of doing just that when one warrior happened upon a field of purple stars.

He stopped, causing those with him to stop as well. The purple stars represented something so very important that he found himself unable to resume retreating. His companions asked if was going to die for flowers, to which he replied, "I will fight for flowers, yet not for them, but for what they represent. By my life, my enemies shall not step one foot upon these purple stars!"

His companions found his speech compelling. Soon many others turned to fight. Instead of a complete rout, the battle turned into a complete victory for the purple stars. Whatever they used to represent, they are now prized among the immortals as symbols of valor.
