Temple of Light
Atop the highest peak in the Silver Lands sits a magnificent temple. Its structure is entirely of stone, unlike most buildings in the Silver Lands. It was first and is primarily a place for stargazers, but over the decades its function has become religious as well. One could say it was inevitable, given the awe in which the Immortals view the stars.
A group of stargazers remain at the temple at all times. Every night they chart the movements of the dancing lights, a record of which is sent daily to Lord Elhren the Wise himself. Even during winter months a bird is dispatched to his residence in Sylvanfall. The Immortals have long believed that the future is revealed in the stars if interpreted aright, and none are better at interpretation than Lord Elhren.
Men of all walks of life come from far and wide to hear what the stargazers have to say. The stargazers accept no money offerings but ask only for a portion of the fruits of the visitor's labor, whatever or however much that may be. The stargazers receive much grain from farmers, livestock from nomadic herders, and fine goods from merchants.
The purpose of the Temple of Light is to impart knowledge and receive it, so there is a strict rule to reserve questions until the third day of one's visit. Unless the visitor is thirteen or younger, in which case it is their privilege to ask questions. This most often trips up new visitors who are more used to speaking than listening.
Purpose / Function
The Temple of Light was originally Lord Elhren's primary residence, as stargazing has long been his chief occupation. As his household grew, a less remote place was needed, and so Lord Elhren relocated to Sylvanfall by the sea. He left the stargazers behind with the mandate to watch and record the night skies.
Over time others began to travel to the temple to seek wisdom from the stargazers. As this practice grew, their purpose became to watch, to record, and to impart knowledge.
