"See that cluster of stars son? See how they all connect to look like a man on the horse with two dogs behind it? That's The Hunter. Legends say that there was a hunter so powerful, so effective that the Gods immortalized his vitality in the stars. Those whom pray to the Shifter and other divine beings of nature and pay homage to The Hunter will find mighty game. Maybe one day I can share you more stories and show you other stars."   ~ Unkown

History

The legends surrounding The Hunter, the Rutgarian name for this particular celestial body, range from very peaceful to violent in nature. The most common tales spoken are ones of a man known as Hern living withing the Verdant Jungle and living off the land during the Age of Umber. The stories range from him being a peaceful vegetarian that lived off the land and hunting only the most destructive predators. Others say that he was a man of balance whom hunted for survival, but would use all parts of the animal to survive or leave the leftovers to allow scavengers devour the remains.   Others are not so kind in their interpretation of Hern. Not only did he hunt the deadly animals of the Verdant Jungle, he also hunted the humanoid creatures and devoured their flesh and hearts to gain their strength. The cannibalistic tendencies of this interpretation of Hern is used as propaganda against the indigenous tribes of the Verdant Jungle.   The most accepted tale of Hern, to the Rutgarian people, is that he was a lone wolf among the Verdant Jungle trying to survive. He survived an attack from the Gurn, slaughtered a tribe of Gnolls, transversed the Living Sea and came out alive, and other trials the Verdant Jungle threw at him. The legends end with the Gods being impressed with his skill for survival they wanted to reward him in his death. They took his soul and created stars so he could be immortalized forever.
