The Ticking Clock
"Welcome to the Ticking Clock traveler. We're here to serve you at anytime of day. Just like a clock we never stop working."
~ Bartender of the Ticking Clock
Purpose / Function
The Ticking Clock is a bar in the city of Rutgar but not the most popular one. The Ticking Clock has a lot of ornate clockwork mechanisms and constructs. There are human bartenders and greeters, but the cooks and the waiters are clockwork constructs.
To those in the know the Ticking Clock is a front for the thieves den below the Ticking Clock. Those who approach the bartender and use the code word they are granted access to the den. In the den there is a multitude of vendors and services that the Clockwork can provide. Fences are common place and will move hot items and other objects. There are dealers in drugs, poisons, and other illicit items.
The Clockwork provide smuggling services as well as bounty hunting if you're trying to recover someone or have them killed. The most common service provided by the Clockwork is spying on the political enemies of those who hired them. Their specialty in spying has given them a mighty reputation causing other guilds to have to find other avenues of revenue than the spying buisness.
History
The Ticking Clock was created in response to the guards raiding the previous hideout. With the proper licenses forged and the proper hands greased the Ticking Clock started construction and finished within a month. The Ticking Clock didn't start off well to start with but to the locals it somehow still stood. Interested on how a bar barley anyone goes into survived more people started to flock. Rather than balking the new clientele the Clockwork leaned into it and created a new source of income.
