Elise Bakuuva Character in Ravenlight | World Anvil

Elise Bakuuva (E-Lee-se Bah-kuu-va)

Elise Bakuuva is a rising fighter, formerly under the guidance of Holly Bell and Clan Vulfax. Originally from the Yukon Region of Earth, she was the adopted daughter of Azala Bakuuva who was the leader of a Warrior Clan of Drachen. Growing up as a docile book-loving servant, she has gone on to become a smart fighter on behalf of what she deems as justice in order to quell the ambitions of the Hive and Arkaza.

Appearance

Throughout much of her life, Elise was considered exceptionally rugged. Lacking pigment to her skin and hair, nor any "meat on her bones" as some put it. She was regarded as a living ghost. Despite this, she still had more than enough muscle and strength due to her daily tasks set forth by Clan Vulfax, and eating the bare minimum to complete those tasks. Her hair also used to be considerably longer; though before confronting Azala and the rest of the clan, she opted to cut much of it away.   Following the Azala Incident, she (like the rest of the clan) would go on to experience better care on behalf of the Tribe as a thanks for their service to stalling the Dharkanian’s plans. With provided meals and better care, she became less pale and her hair had begun to shine, and even began bulking up a bit more to a healthy weight.   Not far off from a year after her hair has grown out and she now resembles a normal teenage girl at the age of 17. She still presents some scars from her time in Vulfax; but overall her health has improved greatly.

Personality

She is exceptionally docile and cautious with whom she trusts due to her time with Vulfax and the betrayals of both Alto/Toby and Holly Bell. Despite that though Elise is rather open minded and eager to both learn and explore. Even with the events of EotP, she maintains a stance of passive nature over aggression; though unlike then, she is now no longer afraid to do what must be done.   She holds her moral code above all else and is still driven to help those in need. And she has less tolerance for those who would eagerly do harm unto others for their own selfish gains. She stands determined to not lose any more of her allies to senseless combat and will do anything to protect them. Despite all of the above though, she knows how to fight and is capable of being caught up in the moment- enjoying a balanced brawl.   Beyond this, she still loves books and prefers fish & natural bounty to common food.

Abilities

Physical Capabilities

While not a warrior by trade, Elise is beyond capable of defending herself in melee combat- with or without a weapon. Due to her time as a servant of Vulfax, her strength is rather excessive to the point where an average Vampiric or Wulf'n can be taken off guard. Elise has before defeated a notable Vampiric in battle with just this; though said Vampire had been grievously injured beforehand. Even though she is capable of fighting such opponents, she lacks the actual ability to keep up with a train Wulf'n or Vampire, let alone a Drachen.   During her training Elise spent time focusing on the martial arts, studying more than a dozen for brief periods of time. While lacking extensive training, she has made good use of and made preference of: Aikido, Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga, and Muay Thai. Her style is to use her opponent's openings and weaknesses against them to gain a decent edge. While her mastery is not stellar, she has made use of enough to get the best of brute opponents who do battle with raw strength and speed alone.   Elise has also shown proficiency with weapon combat, ranging from impromptu staffs to swords. Her swordsmanship is backed by the martial arts she has studied, using the sword only as an extension of her movements.   Due to her work with Vulfax, Elise's endurance and stamina is also higher than most- leveraged to that of a professional athlete, Vampiric, even some Drachen.

Intelligence

Despite her strength and mixed physical abilities, Elise's best weapon is her mind. Time and time again she has gotten the better of far more experienced combatants by simply out strategizing them. This is best displayed with her use of toxins and poisoned weapons to aid her in battle. Several times she has made use of a concotion dubbed concentrated hemlock in battle, using it to best well seasoned fighters.   In battle she relies upon her mind to come up with solutions to problems she physically can not overcome. This has made her a very capable commander in the heat of battle in the past as well, and excellent at making judgments on her opponents. She rather specializes in adapting rapidly and learning quick. She has even taken into account the weaknesses of her own comrades before in the past and factored those weaknesses into her plans.   Her use of creativity and ingenuity has especially been shown with her use of energy manipulation.

Energy Prowess

Elise has learned to harness the power of Light Energy, in part thanks to the training of Holly Bell and Zero Shadowheart. Though she is not yet capable of turning Energy into other forms, such as fire or lightning, or using it to command the elements- her prowess is not to be underestimated. It can be said that it is largely thanks to the pre-established connections her mentors had to the Celestial River that her own connection was so quickly obtained.   Thus far she has displayed the ability to manifest Light Energy into physical energy to attack foes and to defend against attacks. With this she has also learned form manipulation, enabling her to manipulate the raw form of energy to create a multitude of objects to assist her in various circumstances. Her attacks are capable of cracking rocks and breaking them with concentrated fire.   She has also learned to reinforce objects with energy, to amplify their durability or increase their attacking capacity. This is shown best with her own sword- chipped in battle against Azala, now reinforced by energy to be stronger and act sharper.   With this she has picked up on other basics including Light Dash- in which she travels along a trail of light in the blink of an eye from place to place, and Aura Guard- a technique which enhances the durability of her own body allowing her to tank even bullets.   Some have speculated that Elise is a natural born Lightonian due to how quickly she has picked up on Light Energy, while others speculate that it is due to Holly's interference that she has garnered such capability in so short an amount of time. Others have attributed her rapid improvement to her weapon Sephiroth, a Star Blade seemingly loyal to her after being gifted by Holly. Then there are some that believe she is simply "that good" due to her sharp her mind is.   Whatever the cause, Elise has displayed a true affinity for energy control. Though as she admits, she still has a long way to go.

Background

At a very young age, Elise was brought before Azala Bakuuva by Holly Bell for a deal. Holly wished for Elise to be raised and in exchange for doing so, Holly would keep the Church away from Vulfax. From then on Elise was adopted into the Drachen Clan known as Vulfax.   Throughout much of her early life she chose the path of pacifism, a stark contrast to much of the rest of Vulfax who were all special warriors constantly getting into bids and struggles. This decision would plague her for much of her time in Vulfax, as she became the punching bag of many within the clan and was often reduced to being a simple chore girl.   Despite being at odds, Elise had her place within the clan. As one of the few able to slip into the human realm, she was tasked with learning all that she could to benefit Vulfax's future. This led to developments such as learning how to heal, the best places to hunt while avoiding humans, general information gathering, and the ability to identify human means to further her own tasks. This would include using carts to bring back prey and supplies, bringing back discarded 'junk' such as lighters and paper, and much more.   She also had managed to make a few friends, most notably catching the eye of Vulper Arloo Gornetraof- one of the clan's top warriors.

Events of Embers of the Past

Around sixteen years had passed since Elise was brought into Vulfax and little had changed during that time. She, as a woman, was consistently put down by her peers outside of her friend group. Being a fan of books and peace, she often was at odds with the warriors around her. Despite this, some knew that Elise was capable, both due to being a chore girl for so long and having developed some monstrous strength, and as a tactician.   On a number of occasions she had had to prove herself and fend off even her own adoptive brother, Rusty. On another occasion she had to fend off a Vampire well known for his rape and plunder of homes in the Yukon area outside of Vulfax territory, despite the Vampire being exhausted and missing an arm. Still she was valued for being able to walk among the inhabitants of the nearby town of Emerton, where she regularly visited a library operated by Holly Bell as a cover.   Elise finally came to odds with her clan and chose to learn to fight after the death of one of her friends. Elen had decided to end her suffering at the hands of the clan by committing suicide, rather than fleeing and risking being caught & tortured. Her botched suicide led to her being devoured alive by the creatures of the forest. It is well known that Elen was romantically attracted to Elise; though such was against the code of Vulfax.   Training under the guidance of her Zaherian friend Alto, backed by encouragement from her friend Vulper, Elise learned how to contend with others using her strength and tactics, quick to learn how to fight. Despite lacking experience, with her creative means she was still able to fell foes such as Sacho, a strong warrior of the clan. This was done in a bid to gain the approval of Azala and the clan as a whole, using her medical knowledge to create a cocktail drug which used Hemlock.   Following her victory she would go on several deadly missions for the clan, the first of which was a diplomatic mission to rival Zaherian Pack Stark. Having expected a battle, Azala dispatched warriors behind Elise's group in secret, and it did indeed turn to battle. During such the leader of Stark Pack, Dustin, was revealed to be far more monstrous than originally believed- leading to the deaths of two of Elise's closest friends, Thomas and Destiny.   Several missions after and consistently failing each, Elise discovered all of it was a ploy by Azala to get her killed in battle. During this time she also discovered Dustin and others to be working together with Azala for some unknown purpose. Elise, having avoided walking into the ambush by compassion of the Amarok, ran to the aid of strangers who were at battle with a magic user. Having fought and been beaten, she was ready to finally go out fighting until the arrival of Holly Bell.   Over the next few hours Elise learned the truth of the Lightonians, of the Dharkanians, of Azala, of Holly, and of her own arrival in Vulfax. She also learned the reason for the death missions, as Azala believed Elise to be a sleeper agent sent in by the Tribe which was far from the case. Inspired by the nomad Lucy whom she had met before, Elise chose to fight alongside Holly to free Vulfax of Azala's grip. She'd go on to train with Holly, General Ryuu of the Mephisto + his apprentice Zero, and others- eventually unlocking the ability to access the Celestial River and control Light Energy.   Her friend Alto was later kidnapped by the Vein Hunters and Shadow, whom Elise had also met before, and after a lengthy chase it was discovered what Azala's purpose was. Planning to use an air strike to neutralize Vulfax and the surrounding clans to stop the Dharkanians, Elise took matters into her own hands and returned to Vulfax.   There she challenged Azala, The Hunters, Shadow, and others including her best friend Alto who now was revealed to be Tobias Tazaki, a spy for Shadow. Elise eventually exposed Azala for what he was, inspiring Vulper and the many hands of Vulfax to fight alongside her. This culminated in the defeat of Azala, who then revived and turned into a full fledged dragon.   Once more Elise fought Azala's revitalized humanoid form atop the back of his dragon form. During this fight Elise also unlocked the use of her Star Blade, Sephiroth, who guided her to victory. Elise defeated Azala as Lightonian forces fought the Dharkanian forces below, thus ending the Vulfax Valley Incident.   Following this battle, Elise was made leader of Vulfax, and passed the responsibility to Vulper before departing with Holly Bell to combat the Dharkanians.
