Vy'shuk

"A proud folk they are. Might as well call them arrogant, the lot of 'em. They don't like doing the dirty work, make other people do it for them. Did you know they have loads of colonies spread throughout the Bellow Sea? You start wondering why they wouldn't fight for their independence. I reckon they must have tons of warships." ~ A sailor from Lerwick.

Life in Vy'shuk

The Dragonborn of Vy'shuk pride themselves on their status and luxuriousness. This means that each and every Dragonborn on the island could be considered rich in comparison with the rest of the empire. In addition, this means that no Dragonborn would ever be seen doing work in a mine or on a farm. All that kind of work is being done by the people in the colonies that they posses in the Bellow Sea.

They keep a very strict role division as a community by dividing all the tasks over the 4 guilds. When a citizen comes of age, they apply for a guild. That guild carefully reviews their accomplishments and tests them. Then they decide to take them in or pass on them. If one has tried applying for each guild and has been rejected at each of them, they are exiled. This means that Dragonborn often spend a large portion of their youth buildings contacts with important people or doing internships.

An important tradition in Vy'shuk is the way they arrange their marriages. They do this in a very strict way and is often regarded by outsiders as "dog breeding". Parents try to make arrangements with the parents of a suitable partner for their son/daughter. Differently then among other nobles, they don't select a suitable partner based on their standing, but on their physical appearance. They try to make sure that their grand children will have the most exquisite facial characteristics. Dragonborn have become very good at estimating how certain genes will combine as they know about certain dominant or recessive features like brown or blue eyes.

Guilds

Yer'mura

Government, laws, taxes.
The governing guild of Vy'shuk has the most strict selection for new apprentices. The whole guild forms the lower council from which the higher council is chosen every 5 years during a very long and intensive voting system. The higher council's everyday task is governing and decision making. At the top of the governing ladder is the Supreme Razh. The Razh is elected for life and when they die, an even longer and more intensive voting system is used to elect a new one.

Yer'vular

Priest, religion.
Selection of priests is based on a very thorough bloodline check. The dragonborn praise their dragon ancestors and each priest must be of a pure bloodline from the dragon ancestor they praise. Although their religion differs from the imposed empire-wide religion, the Empress has approved it because "It is essentially the same. We praise the spirits of Earth, Soul, Struggle and Wisdom and you worship the dragons of the Earth, Life, Struggle and Knowledge."

Yer'ghuul

Military, law enforcement.
Because of all of the colonies the Dragonborn possess, a large militairy force is needed. Almost any Dragonborn that is physically capable is taken into this guild if they apply. Their numerous war and trading vessels cover the Bellow Sea and the other oceans. Officially, all these colonies belong to the empire as well, but the Dragonborn see it as their own and do not pay any taxes for it.

Yer'quan

Merchant, trade, shops, taverns.
This guild is the biggest of all and is split into many, many sub-guilds. The Yer'quan guild covers all of the economy and industry of Vy'shuk. Example sub-guilds are a merchant guild, a tavern guild, a food store guild, etc.

Qar'Zaraui

The guildless.
The guildless are banished from the island. Most banished Dragonborn start a trading company somewhere else in the Empire.
