Earldom of Norrland
Corresponding with the boarders of the old petty Kingdom of Norrland, the provice of Norrland is most north-eastern boundary of the Kindom of Kloutland.
After years of raids and neglect by the Kings of Kloutland, the province has fallen on hard times as the population has dwindled.
Colder and damper than the rest of Kloutland, Norrland is untamed with its forrests and mountains home to many monsters and evil.
History
Founded in 123 PC by King Penta, the petty Kingdom of Norrland was the last of the petty kloutish kingdoms to be established.
Like its northern neighbour Strathlynde, Norrland resisted absorption into Kingdom of Kloutland until 642 PC until the entire Norrlander royal family died when the Sea Princes destroyed Leilon.
The lord of Beraton, which was the petty kingdoms city realized that Norrland itself could no longer resist the Sea Princes alone and seceding their sovereignty in exchange for becoming the first Earldoman of Norrland.
In 904, The Sea King Ari Audunsson invaded Stranthlynde and Norrland, conquering both before pillaging them.
The Province was reconquered by Landon III in 913 and subsequently the King has poured both time and money into developing Norrland to better protect itself in the face of Sea Prince and Freelander attacks.
Demography and Population
Predominately human, Norrland also is home to colonies of Wood elves and Rock Gnomes. In more recent times, King Landon's development project has brought increasing numbers of Dwarves and Halflings eager to tap into the relatively untapped agricultural and mineral wealth of the populations.
Territories
Norrland forms most north eastern province of Kloutland.
The north of the province is dominated by the Shield Mountains which run along the coast. To the east of the mountains lies the relatively untamed land that surround the town of Phanderlin and Gnomengard.
In contrast, the south of the province is lightly wooded and relatively flat and thus where the majority of the provinces population now lives.
Agriculture & Industry
Norrland is primarily an agricultural province exporting excess produce to the southern provinces.
It is rumoured that at the peak of Norllands powers in the 400's AC, the farms in the alleys to the west of the Shield Mountains were the richest in all of Albader however over time as the petty kingdom weakened it grew less able to defend the farms from monster or freelander raids. Eventually those farms fell into ruin and nature reclaimed them.
The farms around Beraton are productive and relatively safe. They are famous for the quality and sweetness of the apples that grow in its orchards.
Trade & Transport
Being rugged and untamed Norrland has few substantial roads. The main road of importance is the Northern Road which runs through Beraton to Leilon. Having no substantial ports most products are brought overland to Beraton from the south.
