The Shuddering Mountain

Amid the treacherous expanse of the Grey Feet mountains stands a single spike of rock that towers over the rest known as The Shuddering Mountain. It is not for its isolation or inaccessibility that the mountain and the surrounding area remain abandoned. In fact, the way to the Shuddering Mountain stands relatively open with a single wide path hewn into the stone leading from its base to the foothills of the Grey feet and into the flatlands beyond.   Legends only hint at the terrible creatures that reside in the Shuddering Mountain with few travelers and survivors filling in the rest. Residing "in" the mountain is the appropriate word despite no entrance to the mountain ever being found. Those who pass and rest under its shadow, or worse, scale the mountain itself report that parts of the rockface itself shift and shiver during quiet moments. Outlines of a face can be seen among the rocks or a wayward limb emerging, fixed, from the cliffs only to disappear when approached. Each vaguely humanoid flash from the mountain is accompanied by vibrations emanating from within, some soft and distant and some thumping like nearby footfalls. These images appear and vanish as if ghostly, stone sentries warding off intruders before passing through the rock and speeding to another location. Those who have had the misfortune to experience and study the phenomenon posit that these forms are the remaining soldiers of Graxl's Stone Army hinted at in centuries old texts. No one knows how or when Graxl met his end, but the fruit of his experiment still wonder his old kingdom, doomed to immortality, trapped within the stone that made them. Although there must be secrets to be found in the Shuddering Mountain, it is a rare adventurer who seeks to find an entrance. There is no nearby shelter, all communities that have attempted to build in the vicinity have found their structures inexplicably collapsing.
