"The Bite"
A barren icy bridge spans the straight between the Ice Plains Territories and the Realm of Foxreus. Though it juts out of the salt water and has done so for centuries, it has suffered none of the erosion that the nearby coasts have endured. Gleaming silver and white, even in the darkness, it warns ships about to break on it's face. Not a plant nor any creature can refuge on its sterile surface.
"The Bite" as it's known is a magical relic of an ancient war. The Ice Plains Territories were traditionally isolated from the other continents, bounded on all sides by sea. Raids or piracy from across the waters were common but never provided much threat to other nations. Once demand for slaves began to rise in the Territories, a steady supply had to be procured, something which could not be done merely with sea vessels. The histories state that Kamish, King of the Slave Witches, summoned it into being using powerful magic, spending the lives of thousands of slaves while doing so. The slaves were poured into the many ships that made up the Slave Witch navies which were then sailed side by side, forming a makeshift bridge. Calling on deep and potent magics, Kamish froze the boats solid, covering them in layer upon layer of ice. For such grande sorcery thousands of lives had to pay the price.
With The Bite now bridging the waters the Slave Witches were able to stream across en-mass first looting the coastal villages, then the interior settlements. Many battles were fought between the armies of Foxreus and the Slave Witches, but no attempt to destroy The Bite ever met with success. It was only a decade or so later that Foxreus fell to the of Slave Witches, unable to withstand the gathering storm alone.
Centuries later, the Slave Witches long defeated, Foxreus City rebuilt and a tenuous peace established, The Bite still stands proud, holding firm against the wind and surf. These days, few who attempt to cross the bridge on foot manage without losing some fingers, toes or a limb to its cold "bite".
