Ramfyr

Ramfyr is a world still recovering from a devastating apocalypse known as The Scouring swept entire civilizations away in a dark and terrible tide. Some believe the ley-lines that permeate the world became corrupted, and from that corruption was born monsters and disasters that nearly extinguished life across Ramfyr. Others believe that this was the physical manifestation of the Nightmares of the gods themselves. No matter the theory, the resulting disasters monsters that came after are called Dread. Inevitable, unstoppable, the Dread drove the survivors of the Scouring to hidden corners of the world. Those who managed to eke out any kind of existence in the now hostile and alien world did not live well, and the few survivors had almost abandoned hope.   Four Hundred years later, however, a group of sages, seers, mages, dreamers, and warriors of all kinds founded a group to battle back the nightmare that had taken the world. This group would come to be known as The Lamplighters. Combining new technology and magic they developed techniques to cleanse the land and restore some semblance of life and hope to the world.   Centuries and generations have passed, in the modern era scattered civilization has taken root, industry has exploded with the newly won, if tentative, peace. Efforts to reclaim lost knowledge and land have begun to gain momentum. Settlers strike out to once unthinkably dangerous lands with the aid of railways, firearms, and other technologies of the era to build new lives. Researchers and treasure seekers delve into ruined cities and tombs to seek knowledge and treasures from The Living Dream.   Even so, much of Ramfyr remains uninhabited and must be painstakingly reclaimed and rediscovered. Scars and Blights still fester like open wounds in the flesh of the world, and from them spew nightmarish beasts and foul magic that poison the land. Some believe the time of the Dread is coming to an end, that a new Living Dream is set to begin... But dark whispers in the lost and forgotten places say that something ancient and profane hungers and soon may wake...
