Guernica
(Not renamed by the Illithid)
Guernica remains as a testament to surviving the mind flayers. There is nothing left.
Originally, the moon had been an ocean-dwelling nation, with a variety of mountain peaks which allowed for normal habitation on land. Although the world had warm summers with open oceans, and freezing winters with frozen ice-sheets, the people were happy. Filled with Aasimar, tieflings, genasi, sea elves, tritons, and locathah, the society was largely peaceful and communal.
Then the Illithid came.
It was clear early that the races here were smart. Most races, upon hearing of their neighbours being invaded, began to retreat into refugee camps constructed by sea elves. Most land-based creatures retreated below the sea for safety, and for good foresight. The mind-flayers, finding nothing useful to subjugate, decided to melt away the icy shell of the planet, but to no avail, as the majority of the races had already hunkered down.
But the mind flayers played their long game, as they always did. They waited, and prepared. They disguised themselves amongst the locals, over time, and entered into their communities. They slowly convinced many to return to land, where it was safe… where they were meant to be. And so many did, eagerly, not knowing they were being fed into the industrial complex of the mind flayers, as mere cattle, and nothing more.
During the War of Quaji, Guernica was lifted from its restrictions. The Illithid retreated from Guernica, because their resources were strained under the attack of the Githyanki assault. As they surrendered ground, the people of Guernica returned back to the surface realm. Chilly as it was far from the sun and from Quaji, it was home, and so it was comfortable.
They did not expect the return of the Illithid.
During the Battle of Hormuz, the Illithid and Githyanki launched into a fearsome battle. And due to the impressive power of the Brainstealer Dragons, the Githyankis lost the fight. Seeing Guernica as a potential reclamation point should they lose another battle, the mind flayers decided to take no risks. They gathered their fleet, and just as they did with Dostinika, they blasted the moon with a massive Disintegration beam of unrivaled power. But this was not enough, because the people of Guernica began to launch and offensive against the Illithid.
This was all in the plan. The Illithid, seeing as their gracious deed to end a colony was not appreciated by the rebels who fought for their survival, ensued an orbital bombardment of the planet - a near infinite sum of concentrated magic missiles - upon the planet and all its inhabitants, until little was left but rubble.
Such is the remainder of Guernica, a planet literally bombed from orbit, with nothing to show for itself but decimated ruins, text so old it has literally been melted off the stone it sits on. Nothing remaining.
