Location: West central Beorlan. The Anarru River, originating in the heart of Palanlad's great plains, meanders lazily through the gently rolling savanna landscape covered by short grasslands and scattered pockets of small trees. Starting as a large stream in the heart of Palanlad, it gathers momentum from numerous tributaries as it flows in a southwesterly direction to the Great Western Sea.

Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None

Physical Characteristics: Approximately 330 miles long, only parts of the Anarru River are navigable. In its early stages, the river is shallow and narrow, making travel in a canoe difficult. At this stage the river presents little impediment to crossing on foot. Further downstream, the Anarru transforms into a narrow navigable waterway suitable for canoes and rowboats. As it progresses southwestward, the last 70 miles becomes accommodating for shallow draft flat bottom boats. The river's unhurried current ensures a smooth journey, free from rapids or hazardous navigation challenges on its way to the Great Western Sea.

Environment and Ecology: Water levels are seasonal. In the winter and early spring the generous spring rains fill the river and cause it to run with a steady current. However, during the arid days of late spring and summer, the river levels drop and at the height of summer, all flow stops and the river transforms into a series of watering holes.

Hazards and Challenges: Along its riverbanks, herds of antelopes, wildebeests, and gazelles gather to satisfy their need for water. This grouping of herd animals attracts predators like leopards. Travelers must remain vigilant when near the river to prevent falling prey to the natural predators.
