Suncadia (Soon-Kay-Dee-Ah)

Suncadia was once a city of splendor in the jungles of Gardaion. Once a lumber camp for the thick, hard wood of the jungle, it grew when people discovered a precious gem outcrop in the nearby caves. The precious gems, formed through pressure and time, were on top of one of Rahmia's Fonts of Magic, and each gem mined held magical properties. When discovered, the city quickly grew and many scholars and inventors congregated here to study the gems and use them to create many magical and mystical things. Walking machines, sentient items, and bursts of energy were abundant in the city when magic originally was not. The stones provided the essence of magic and it soon became a common use, with others finding more creative ways to use the stones. Through the stones, commerce prospered. People came to trade, spreading the gems over the surface of Rahmia. Everyday items were imbued with the stone and magic was no longer locked to the Divine followers. Suncadia became home to many people and races and had become a cultural center for the region. Massive plays took place, utilizing the Stones to enhance the special effects. Art became more intricate, more over the top. Wealth flourished in the city as people flocked to further witness to what was the most exciting city in the world at that time. However, what was its greatest achievement became its greatest downfall. Some sought the power of the Stones themselves and research began on how to use them to get stronger. Others wanted to break free of the prison the stones represented, and wished to cast magic on their own without a stone. Dark practices came into play and each experiment drew the city closer to destruction. One day, in the Inventors Ward, a huge magical detonation occurred and decimated the whole city and surrounding area, scarring the land and wiping out thousands all in an instant. What was one lush jungles, rich mines, and a massive bustling city turned into rocky desolate terrain, void of life and magic altogether. The explosion, centered on the Font of Magic itself, traveled through the Rivers of Essence, setting off smaller explosions across the globe. Some places inhabited, others not, but all changed with the unleashing of magic across the land. And while it was the foundation of spreading arcane magic throughout the planet, some wonder if the cost was too great to bear, if the Inventors of Suncadia unleashed not only magic on the world, but the thirst for power as they did achieve their goal at the end of the day. The actions of those Inventors will inspire others to look for ways to break the molds and grow stronger, through whatever means necessary. A lesson was learned to not mess with magic, but only time will tell if people learn from history.
