Nahah-Uben, The First Planet

According to the Varand, the planet Nahah-Uben was once the fourth planet from the sun. It was primarily comprised of helium and hydrogen with an unusual atmosphere composed of oxygen and hydrogen sulfide. (Had the sun not expanded, it is likely that the atmosphere would have eventually burned off on its own due to how reactive these two substances are with each other.) It would have been visible from Her Desher as a bright blue dot in the night sky.

Now all that remains is the metal core, comprised of mercury and its compounds, the rest having burned off by the expansion of the sun into a red giant. Its surface features many craters and cracks caused by frequent meteorite collisions, from which it has no atmosphere to protect it.

Also according to the Varand, Nahah-Uben once had a multitude of moons, but these spun away into space or were engulfed by the sun as the planet's mass decreased. The first three planets in the system were apparently completely engulfed. Nahah-Uben is visible from Her Desher with even low-end telescopes due to its relative proximity. Tidally locked to the sun, its visible side is much featured in art and a common theme in science fiction involves the existence of hostile alien life living in the planet's twilight zone. Though any life which could evolve on a planet without an atmosphere would be far less familiar to humans than such stories suggest.
