Session 22 - Aedificium Ultimo Report in Raan | World Anvil

Session 22 - Aedificium Ultimo

General Summary

The Lords of Neverwhere are finally capable of entering the second floor where they hope to find the ultimate source of the disturbance, and a clue as to what happened to Neverwhere and why. What foul, infected constructs await them above?

This game session was the final session to clear out the Aedificium, resulting in an exciting pair of fights and the recovery of the proprietor of the Aedificium, Norman Brigh-Sworn!

Today's session began with a rest to restore the group to full resources, and a bit of healing to top folks off. The group then elected to head directly up to the second floor and toward the control room that Shauna had been saved by.

Nobody Said There'd Be Math

Upon arriving on the second floor, the group quickly found the central control room, but could not enter as they didn't have the appropriate key for it. So they went about searching for it in the training and class rooms upstairs. There, they found two strange creatures who were also infected by the far realms. A strange crystal cluster with odd claw hands, and a creature of pure math inhabiting the corpse of an elf of some type.

Tordan was the MVP here, by grabbing the creature and keeping it from turning incorporeal he allowed the rest of the party to kill it with great vigour. Togalt took a significant amount of damage, but was supported by Shauna and the rest of the party, who rained death down upon the enemy with arrow and mind bullet and gun.

Once the two of them were taken out, they checked the classroom and found another pair who had already been killed. The perpetrator here was another of the "Web Developers" who had a Chaos Bomb that they set off far too close. They were near death before the party found them and kept them from being claimed by Omega.

With the key to open the final door to the central magic battery in hand, they finally ventured into the heart of Aedificium.

Between Oblivion & Nightmare

Opening the door to the Heart of Aedificium, the group examined the powerful symbol that was active while Tordan sifted through the documents that were arrayed on the back table. Between Zirmek and Tordan, they determined the nature of the effect that that it had been hijacked by a creature of the far realms. Bravely, Zirmek used his occult power to tap into the spell and bring the party to the fleshy, living corridor that was consuming the power of Aedificium and holding the proprietor hostage. Bravely did the group fight through this nightmarish gullet, and crush the protoform of the mastermind to reveal the true enemy!

Setting its sights on consuming Zirmek as its new host, it did its best to destroy the party, but could not withstand their combined might. Falling before the weapons and spells of the Lords and Lady of Neverwhere, Zirmek was able to extract them from the now-collapsing nightmare prison before it imploded.

Now freed from the ravenous hunger of the far realms siphon, the rest of Neverwhere returned through its anchor to Zirmek with only a bit of a nosebleed.

Highlights

  • Tonguesten is capable of using his prehensile tongue to meld minds with a member of the party and assist them.
  • Tonguesten accomplished this by sticking its tongue into Myu Wan's ear
  • Myu Wan thought this was absolutely disgusting
  • Most of the rest of the group was sure they'd seen enough hentai to know where that was going, but though it made Myu Wan shudder, Tonguesten did no more than assist
  • Shauna, remembering that the other creatures downstairs were controlled by far realms parasites, made sure to annihilate them after they defeated the enemy.
  • Zirmek's occult knowledge came in very handy today.
  • Zirmek's spells, however, were of limited use, as the creatures they needed to take care of tended to be resistant or outright immune.
  • Shauna showed incredible bravery in the face of most of the enemy; however, she remains justifiably terrified of the Far Realms
  • Togalt continues to be an angry wall of muscle and death.
  • Tordan channeled his inner Lucha Libre and ended up grappling several of the enemies, a tactic that helped the entire rest of the party.
  • The fleshy sucking tunnel within which the final boss dwelled had teeth that did a significant amount of damage to more than one member of the party
  • Siri's zen archery allows them to shoot arrows capable of stunning the enemy, and they did so several times at critical junctures!
  • When all else fails for Zirmek, shoot mind bullets.
  • When math-based enemies use the spells the party uses against them it hurts a LOT.
  • Myu Wan continues to be a deadly shot.
  • Shauna did a lot of healing the group to keep them fighting; this is especially brave given the terrifying setting of the final battle
  • Shauna also created a bramble bush that kept several members of the party from being sucked to their deaths in the maw of the flesh tunnel.
  • Shaded Grove loves his agility, as it allows him to deliver devastating attacks quickly.
  • Shaded Grove learned that being light and lithe can have a downside, as they repeatedly were wrenched off of their feet and into the terrifyingly lethal tunnel teeth, not to mention being one of the members caught by Shauna's well-placed bramble bushes
