NYPD, Inc.

Reformed into NYPD, Inc. after the city's collapse following The Quake.

Unlike many government police forces, the NYPD centered in New York City tried to remain organized and civil-serving, even as corporations encroached. However under pressure of competing organizations, corporate manipulations, and the eventual crippling of the city by The Quake and the UN's pull out, the NYPD had no funding and no choice but to fracture off from the local government. Relieving the state of having to budget for them, the turned mainly to communities for any support in reorganizing as a private security force similar to their competitors.

No one expected them to succeed. But perhaps as the last stubborn ember of the city's soul, they did, skirting by just barely thanks to community donations, member contributions, and city support. Rebuilding from the ashes, they in time grew their reach and influence, taking jobs not only from AA corps and below, but also what local businesses could afford them. Rising up as a police of the people in a time when such is in short supply, they've done what they can to remain "clean" without going under. The struggle is real and constant, and they're still not a perfect organization by any means (evidence still goes missing, cases can be swayed for the right price, etc) but they're by far the best NYC has, and compared to most other once-police forces that sold out or dissolved, they're a shining example of what devotion and grit can accomplish even in the sixth world.
