Long ago disaster struck the world, unleashing a horrible plague upon the world. They consumed everything in their path, leaving ruin in their wake. The spirits, working in tandem with humans, fought back the horde to their hive. The spirits sealed away the destroyers, leaving the armies in a suspended slumber while the queen was stripped of her very sentience and soul, leaving a slumbering husk.   Each of the spirits left their mark on the creatures, with some remaining behind to guard the slumbering catastrophe. The spirits warned that one day the wards will fail and the invaders would be unleashed on the world once again. In preparation for this, humanity began to train the creatures of the world up to fight back against the invaders.   Centuries passed, creatures changed, machines were built to defend against the creatures and forgotten. Civilizations advanced, history became legend, and legend became myth. The defenses once trained or built to defend against the invasive creatures grew wild, feral, or continued to be raised and bred for entertainment purposes.   The rituals performed every millenia have gone unfulfilled.
