Wyrmic

Overview

The predecessor of Draconian, Wyrmic was a language spoken exclusively by dragons. Its writing system was glyph based, having a symbol for each word and a secondary "alphabet" used for writing names. It was used until 10,000 years ago just prior to the events of the Joining. Its written form survives to this day, though dragons who are fluent in it are rare.
Evolution
The first known use of Wyrmic as a writing system came about roughly 25,000 years ago. Usage as a spoken system likely came earlier than that. It is thought that Wyrmic originated from the common simplistic dialogues spoken by the leaders of dragon clans in central Asia.   As dragons evolved higher intelligence, their language needs increased. Early academic dragons sought to memorize every spoken word known to them and flew abroad to share their language with other dragons. Quickly knowledge of this budding language spread across the entire Eurasian landmass and into Africa, lands where most dragons at the time lived.   As it spread, this language adopted pronunciations and words and grammar from other simplistic dragon languages, adding to the scope of what was becoming Wyrmic but also adding to the complexity.
Abandonment
A little over 10,000 years ago, a group of dragons led by the Greatest Elder at the time chose to simplify the structure of Wyrmic so that it was a easier language to learn and use. Their reasoning was thus: no other Lakis species widely adopted Wyrmic over their own languages because of the many rules and intricacies involved in even speaking a simple request; that the idea of using an alphabet for the entire language rather than just for names was gaining popularity amongst the non-scholarly portion of dragon society; and Wyrmic by then had begun to evolve into different branches in different regions of the world to the point that dragon kind would soon no longer have a universal language.   Taking inspiration from Wyrmic's naming alphabet and its existing vocabulary in the central Asian region, these dragons built a new language, Draconian. Hoping to avoid the issues that had developed with Wyrmic, they decreed that every few hundred years, dragon scholars from all around the world would convene and restructure Draconian and reunify it.
